Obama Care Prep Talk (Part 1)

A lot of the Affordable Care Act goes into effect in 2014. The Affordable Care Act is designed to finance health care, but that does not mean there will be efficient health care.

Financing health care does not mean providing health care, either. Nor, will it provide the health care results you want. Life style will always trump health care.

The current health care system is a sick care system. In fact, it pays for sick care procedures that don’t really get you better.

Many medical doctors are not able to help you get well because medicine is run by pharmaceutical lobbies that have tied the doctors’ hands. If you haven’t seen the documentary “Doctored,” I recommend you watch it.

As a chiropractor, I have a very different definition of health and how one goes about obtaining and maintaining health.

Chiropractic is not medical. It is not an intervention for symptoms and sickness. Chiropractic is a proactive approach to maintaining your body’s survival system: the nervous system.

Your nervous system is the first line of defense to living and healing. The pharmaceutical approach is toxic and damaging to the nervous system. We’ve always known that.

Toxic health care will be available through Obama-Care, but do you really want that?

Consider this:
Many people may not be utilizing chiropractic enough to really health-build. You may not realize the unique benefits chiropractic provides.

Mainstream health care may not be available as it is now, and it may no longer be desirable to you……

As always, I am here to take that journey with you. Read more in next month’s issue on this blog.

The Doctored is In

My copy of the new documentary, "Doctored," came in.  You can watch it in the office.  It will be playing it in the waiting room for quite a while.   It has an important message about patients' freedom to choose the health care they want.

Why Should You Visit a Chiropractor?

(Yahoo Auburn Chiropractor 13021)

Why should you visit a chiropractor?  What does it mean to receive a chiropractic adjustment?
What is a chiropractic adjustment?

These are three powerful questions that can change your life.
I feel chiropractic is an important way to change your health and your overall outlook on life.  This is not the usual What's wrong?/Let's fix it mind set we are so used to in the health care market. I hope to offer you something different that gives you insight and self empowerment.

Some people use chiropractic after something uncomfortable has happened.  We can also use chiropractic to keep you ready for life's ups and downs.

Why should you visit a chiropractor?
I won't give you the exhaustive list of "chiropractic conditions."  There really is no chiropractic condition other than the desire to keep your body in tip top condition.

We often wait until we are not in tip top condition, but that's another story.  I won't give you the supposed list that starts out with back pain, head aches, carpal tunnel syndrome, pain during pregnancy, sciatica, bed wetting, ear infections, etc. . . .

Symptoms or diagnoses are just ways to describe what you are experiencing at the moment. But we do like to feel good and I don't blame anyone for that.

It is a good idea to visit the chiropractor to fine tune the spine, skull, and other joint connections that are changing the way your body handles stress.  That is a broad definition.  We need you to tell your story so we can focus on the areas of deficit that we can help.

I can't be more specific than that because someone would prematurely decide it's not what they need.  I'd hate for them to lose out on a great experience.  Regardless of what  a person needs, giving the spinal/nerve system an adjustment to improve movement and nerve flow is never a waste of time.

What does it mean to receive a chiropractic adjustment?
This means someone is open to releasing the stagnated areas of the spine and other joints so improved function can be achieved.

What is a chiropractic adjustment?
A chiropractic adjustment is a specialized force applied to the spine/joints by hand or instrument in order to maintain critical communication between the brain and body.  Some immediate responses between the brain and the body involve relaxed muscles, deeper breathing, reduced inflammation, and a better state that invites efficient healing.

Here's a better question that is pretty easy to answer.
Why do I need better communication between the brain and body?

(1) For starters, so pain (which is necessary and useful) isn't prolonged as long as we know what contributed to the painful event.

(2) We don't want misaligned joints (subluxations) to continually add more trauma to the spine and nerves leading to bone damage and hypersensitive nerves.

(3) We don't want subluxations to interfere with or slow down the immune system which would lead to other health problems.

(4) Subluxations can leave us in a prolonged state of "Flight or Fight" which adds more damage to the body with lingering symptoms such as high blood pressure, rapid heart beat, poor lung capacity, sluggish digestion, irritable bowels, fatigue, weight gain, etc.

(5) We do it without drugs!

Stop Wasting Gas, Chiropractic Avoids Traffic Jams

Take 9 short minutes to watch this video taken from a chiropractic seminar. Dr. Derrel Pratt sums it so easily. Sometimes we chiropractors make it too complicated.

The first thing he said is the chiropractic message can change your life.

I agree totally. Chiropractic is a message. It is also a lifestyle.

It is not a treatment for spinal conditions, although people in pain who get adjusted do well! It helps them heal better.

But it was never intended to be limited to that tiny scope.

We are encouraged not to limit ourselves in life.

Enjoy the video.

Do You Have a Food Hangover & Not Know It?

I had too many carbs two days ago. It was a Friday. I had a headache on Saturday. I've been so good with my low carb eating plan that I felt bad that I over did it. Depending on how quickly I get back to my routine, I will still feel the effects of my overeating for one or two more days. I won't be gross, but other digestive maladies take a while to go away.

How about the folks who haven't gotten an handle on their food issues? People who can't lose weight or have constant stiffness or headaches are usually dealing with a stressed digestive system. When this happens the nerves connected to the digestive organs will send reflexes to their partner muscles and joints.

Every spinal nerve root delivers information for the organs and it's neighboring muscles.

If you are having a food hangover, you feel stiffness or pain in the musculo-skeletal system every time you move.

Ask me how chiropractic can translate these body reactions so you can get rid of your food hangover.

What's Wrong with You? Why Do You Go to the Chiropractor

People who get adjusted hear this question all the time. They are almost accosted just because they tell someone they are going to the chiropractor.

"What's wrong with you?" someone asks, in shock.

Try to explain it and the other person just shuts down. It goes against their social conditioning. Time to tune out. I don't need to hear this valuable insight that could change my life for the better. Let's talk about the weather.

If you haven't heard my personal story about my first adjustment. I invite you to read about it here.

Thanks for not tuning out.

The P.A.I.N. Plan Part II (What if you do nothing?)

ch
A few weeks ago I wrote about my stiff neck episode and why chiropractic is not the treatment for my neck pain, but rather it is a plan for ongoing health.
Read the post here.

I gave a summary of the P.A.I.N. plan and how to look at your situation rather than focusing on the immediate problem.

What if I didn't follow the P.A.I.N. plan and decided to do nothing? People do it everyday. They notice something in their life that is undesirable but ignore it. They keep on working and muddling through the day, ignoring the stress response that is asking for help.

These are the people who don't call the chiropractor and just wait for it to go away. I prefer people get in touch with their chiropractors to resolve ongoing issues that robs them of health. It is much more desirable than waiting for a crisis.

Here is what would have happened if I did nothing after my neck injury:

1. I probably would have stopped exercising due to the pain. This would have allowed scar tissue to take hold and increase the chances of future injury, often leading to chronic pain.

2. If my range of motion was reduced and I developed headaches, I could have been at risk for a serious accident because my reflexes wouldn't respond properly. Perhaps while driving I would not be able to see something in my field of vision and respond safely.

3. Ongoing pain and stiffness certainly affects someone's mood. A distraction like this can get in the way of good job performance, relationships, etc.

4. A depressed mood or lack of energy can take away people's motivation to take better care of their health. This can lead to weight gain, high blood pressure, and other negative changes.

5. Many people resort to medicine for quick relief, but this is a risky proposition when alertness is compromised as well as the likelihood of side effects.

6. In some instances, pain does go away, but something else is left behind. As mentioned above, less energy, weight gain, postural changes and subtle nervous system dysfunction results. These are less obvious stresses but they can deaden nerves. Disc herniations exist for quite a while before a future painful injury occurs.

I want people to come in to take care of the hidden problems that are causing the more distracting problem. That is chiropractic's goal.

Don't be distressed...be empowered.

See you at the table...the chiropractic table.

Another Best of in 2010

Happy New Year to My Wellness Enthusiasts!

I invite you to live a life of wellness through chiropractic, not just a quick pop and crack for back pain.

Ask me how much better your life would be with weekly chiropractic care at an amazingly discounted rate.

Our Best in 2010 is also our Best in 2011. Our health should always be at its best.
"Once a week to stay at your peak."
Just think about this: When does stress take a vacation? It doesn't. Stress is on duty 24 hours a day.

This is why folks who are not in pain actually derive greater benefit from chiropractic care than those who are in pain. If someone is pain, their healing system is at a disadvantage. This makes chiropractic even more effective on a body that is not as stressed.

A 2004 paper published in the Journal of Vertebral Subluxation
Research
showed people considered asymptomatic or normal
and free from injury who received regular chiropractic care still
gained benefit. They had significant improvements in the
following:

Respiration
Range of motion
Heart rate variability
Autonomic function
Endocrine function
Cardiovascular function
Immune function
Muscle strength
Athletic ability
Neurocognitive function
Reaction time
Information processing
Visual acuity
Stress
Anxiety
Reproductive hormones
Healing
Recovery time
Labor times

Our health is so important. It is what allows us to achieve our goals and make our marks on the world.

And, as 2010 came to a close we have an abundance of best of stories...so here's a best of 2010 health articles from Dr. Mercola READ THEM HERE

You Wouldn't Know ________ If It Bit You!

You've heard this comment many times before. I recall my mom saying it all the time. I guess I just wasn't as observant as she was. If I was looking for something I misplaced she would point it out to me that it was right in front of my face. She also used the old saying, "If it was a snake it would have bitten you."

Many times we are looking for something but our mind has a different idea of what it truly is in reality. Maybe that's why we keep looking for it.

Take health, for instance.

People know they want to feel better, but they don't know health.

Sometimes when they experience health it scares them. A fever or vomiting puts people in a panic, but they are signs of health. The body is trying to protect itself and creates these reactions to subdue and eliminate pathogens.

Others may not know health because they assume fatigue and aches are "normal."

Not knowing what creates health leads others to do unhealthy things due to misinformation. Taking drugs that have dangerous side effects and are very difficult to stop because they cause "rebound" illness is an example. Many surgical procedures have been deemed ineffective but people want to try something, even if it has poor outcomes.

So what creates health?

Health is not medicine. It is not prevention. Health is an optimal state that comes from the life force that automatically maintains your body as long as stress levels are manageable. The body doesn't work alone. The mind also plays a role. Life force directs the mind-body to express itself based on environmental conditions.

Life force is invisible but we see it in action through the nervous system. We show our appreciation by taking care of health in ways that are nurturing. Chiropractic care of the spine & nervous system is #1 on the list.

Does this change how you view your existence? Does this living principle change how you live your life and make choices?

Sometimes we don't know health until we lose it. Chiropractic teaches us to be more in tune with our functioning, and more aware.

Chiropractic teaches us to remove the limits we place on ourselves.

If you've never been adjusted, you don't know health.

Enjoy the journey.

Why Prevention Programs Miss the Mark

Dr. Candace Pert has been one of the most influential "new biology" researchers in our time. If you ever want to read a good book about the evolution of health care thinking, open up her book titled Molecules of Emotion.

The following quote from pg 285 demonstrates how she grew as a lifelong learner from the restraining halls of the “old science” laboratory to her independence as a mind-body researcher. She also explains why I believe most prevention programs are insufficient...

I put this article on my Vital Aging Mind-Set Blog.

Surpassion: Advanced Living [Chiropractic Inspired Life-Style]

This Sunday's opening prayer at church proclaimed God's love surpasses all our thoughts and desires. I reflected on this and decided this should inspire us to have "surpassion. "

Being in awe of all the gifts presented to us in this world, I can't help but feel the byproduct of all this generosity as "surpassion."

Since I made up this word I should explain more of its meaning to me. (I googled it, too, just to make sure no one else thought of it. It is not an official word in the English dictionary, anyway.)

Everything can be described as an exchange of energy. Matter is energy. We, as humans, have a great deal of influence over the energy we give and receive reciprocally. Our collective human potential surpasses our current level of thinking. Since we have the opportunity to evolve in our hearts and minds, it becomes our surpassion.

Surpassion allows us to honor our physical and non-physical gifts. It is a never ending optimism that compels us to share our talents and give of our time to make the world a better place.

Your chiropactic adjustment is a special time to honor the energy and matter components of your hard working nervous system. It always, always, always, plays a role in how you think, act, love, create and transform. (I used to say "heal" but "transform" inspires us to be more.

The Law of Distraction

Available Now: The Numbers Don't Lie Diet

********************************************
The Law of Attraction has gotten a lot of popular press lately thanks to Larry King and Oprah:
http://www.humanhealing.com/light/archives/2007/02/13/want-more-law-of-attraction-on-oprah/

http://www.squidoo.com/the-secret-law-of-attraction/

The law of attraction sounds so simple: what you focus on will be your reality. It takes practice if we've been trained to live by limiting beliefs of some sort. Just being able to live in a crowded society with numerous regulations to protect us can stifle our natural curiosity and creativity. We have plenty of man-made laws. The law of attraction is a great reminder of the natural laws.

When we ignore the natural laws, we are swimming in the "law of distraction." How often do we get enveloped in the negativity around us? This negativity prevents us from experiencing true health, happiness and balance.

  • The news reminds us of negativity every hour on the hour
  • Peers and friends who want others to share in their misery
  • Gossip
  • Poor health as a result of expecting it as a part of life or a part of aging

The law of distraction pries us away from what we want to do that we know is good. Every negative conversation, TV or radio show, thought, etc. distracts us from our personal power.

Let your chiropractic experience be a postive influence in your life that allows you to seek out the positive everywhere you go.
