What's In A Name? Nothing! What's In YOU?? Everything!

What's all over the news this week?

Autism?
Depression?
Heart Disease?
Lung Cancer?
That Vascular Problem in Your Legs When You Sit On A Plane???????

Enough Already!

Is it just getting to nauseating to see, hear, and read about all this devistating health news in the media? It is overkill. And has not put a dent in disease prevention. In fact, we are sicker as a nation.

Why?
Because we are scared.
We think getting sick is going to happen it happens.
We don't bother. We fall for what everyone else falls for.

Start today. Repeat this often.
There is nothing in a name.

It is what is inside me that counts.

Like my innate intelligence.
Like my nervous system.
Like my brain.
Like my genetic potential.

Do You Know a Child Who Is Suffering?

Dr. Robert Melillo believes balancing the brain hemispheres is the key to breakthrough for kids suffering with developmental and learning disorders. So convinced is Melillo that he is launching Brain Balance Centers across the country.

"When I started witnessing the rampant increase in children taking Ritalin in the early 1990s, I decided to find out what the problem was," says Melillo, who first began exploring the hemispheric concept in 1990. Melillo admits his first instinct was to blame the rise in ADHD cases on pharmaceutical companies peddling prescription medicines to beef up their bottom lines. So he launched an investigation.

He talked with pediatricians, but none could tell him what was going on in the brains of these Ritalin-taking kids. He talked with educators. Schoolteachers confirmed the problem of hyperactivity, but couldn't offer him any insights as to the cause of the problems. "I realized nobody knew what was really happening—that was the problem," Melillo, whose three children were under 6 years old at the time, recalls. "I dove into researching this, and it has become my obsession for 15 years now." Obsession is an accurate word. Melillo has already written four textbooks on the topic.

His research uncovered a hemispheric relationship between conditions like ADHD, dyslexia, autism, Asperger syndrome, Tourette's syndrome and various learning disabilities and processing disorders. "There isn't much difference between ADHD, autism, Asperger's and Tourette's. The exact same areas of the brain are involved," Melillo says, explaining that he has grouped these disorders into what is referred to as Functional Disconnection Syndrome. "The only difference is between ADHD and dyslexia; one involves the right side of the brain and the other involves the left side of the brain."

More is Less: Not Providing Adequate Information

I always believe our biggest health problem, besides the subluxation epidemic, is that we make health decisions without enough information.

.............................

In October, I sent a letter to MORE magazine because its article Back Attack could have had more information about chiropractic care. While I can't find the original article, I have printed here my letter to them and then you can read the letter they printed:

In response to the November article, Back Attack, please allow the opportunity to provide more information regarding chiropractors. Membership in a professional organization does not indicate competency. All professionals can choose to be dues paying members of organizations that match their professional niche or interest. The American Chiropractic Association is just one of many professional chiropractic associations including the International Chiropractors Association, World Chiropractic Alliance, and the World Federation of Chiropractic as well as numerous state associations.

Chiropractors are licensed doctors and every state has its own governing board that monitors professional conduct. Osteoporosis and lower extremity numbness do not automatically rule out chiropractic care as a sensible option. Doctors of chiropractic assess the nature and severity of the symptoms before recommending a chiropractic treatment plan or referral to other practitioners.

............................................

Now, here is what is in the Feb. issue. You will discover what I was conveying has changed once my letter was chopped up:

"As a chiropractor, I don't agree with Rover's point that osteoporosis and lower extremity numbness automatically rule out chiropractic as a sensible option. Chiropractors are licensed practitioners, and every state has its own governing board that monitors professional conduct."

Elena Rover replies:
The advice not to seek chiropractic care in these instances is consistent with treatment recommendations from the National Institutes of Health and the Mayo Clinic.

I don't expect NIH and the Mayo Clinic to be knowledgeable on chiropractic issues. They are allopathic paradigms. And the Mayo Clinic is known to correctly diagnose 40% of the time.

My lesson to Better Living Choices readers: Stayed informed, always look for more information. I do it all the time. I have an insatiable appetite for it. And I am devoted to sharing what I learn. Of course, I want everyone to go for the drug free approaches first. Just a reminder, I became a chiropractor because of the unique way chiropractic views and treats the nervous system. No other profession comes close. And that's fine. Wellness has many facets to it and chiropractic addresses them very well.
Thank yourself for being so diligent in your quest for wellness.

See you at the chiropractic table...and the book club meeting!

Subluxation Accumulation & Compensation Part 1

Subluxations don't kill you but make it easier to lose your life.

Chiropractors are focused on the subluxation and how it steals your life. I will being doing a 6 part series on the vertebral subluxation to cover all the damaging affects subluxations contribute to. I do not intend to scare you, however, my goal is to help you realize how crucial chiropractic is for a well rounded health care routine.

Subluxation: sub = less
lux = life

A subluxation is a lowered expression of life.

Spinal joints are subluxated when they lose mobility.

Any hypomobility of a vertebral joint causes changes in the body. Hypomobility means lack of motion. When a spinal joint no longer has its full range of motion it throws off the balance of the body's system.

There are 3 conditions that lead to subluxations:
  • Chemical (toxins, poor nutrition)
  • Physical (traumas, sudden or slow/chronic)
  • Psychological (stress, self concept, beliefs, attitudes, mental health)

Chemical changes and mechanical changes in the body occur when exposed to the 3 conditions above. When they occur in the spine, negative patterns develop that rewires the nervous system so there is a lack of normalcy and balance.

The immediate changes are seen in biomechanics, connective tissues, circulation, nerves, as well as the integrity of all the tissues of the body.

Let's start the biomechanics of the body:

When biomechanics are disrupted, spinal joints have less movement and take on abberant motion patterns that are not normal or healthy becoming weak. This leads to immobilization which begins the process of degeneration. This is easily seen when a limb is kept in a cast for a considerable amount of time. Inflammation is a part of the degeneration process, causing cell damage and death which irritates receptors that are sensitive to the chemical insults of inflammation. Once these receptors send messages to the brain the sympathetic nervous system causes puts stress on organs and there is an increase in epinephrine.
How long should this reaction go on?

To be continued.... look for part 2 & what actually happens when epinephrine increases.

New Year...New Start...

Welcome to 2008. We are blessed to have another great time ahead of us. This is an opportunity to dive in and see what it is like to experience advanced living.

My new years resolution is to introduce an inspiring program to keep us focused on thinking better to feel better. I wrote about it in my monthly Citizen article that was published today. I am adding the link here so you have it at your fingertips.

http://www.auburnpub.com/articles/2008/01/01/news/lake_life/lakelife04.txt

The 100 Year Lifestyle Book Club is beginning this month. I urge you all to get the book and keep it as your Art of Aging Guidebook. Read more about it.

The 4x4 Success Systems Seminar begins this month also. If you didn't get the Jan. calendar, ask me to send you one.

Sleeping Giants / Sleeping Beauties has expanded. For those of you already "awake," Leaders Are Healthy, Followers Are Sick is taking off on the podcast.

Don't forget your weekly adjustment. Often people tell me they are feeling great, but don't rely on your feelings. If you aren't growing and expanding your horizons you are stuck. The nervous system does get stuck in habits that are not noticeable. Even a hamster running on his exercise wheel stops improving. The adjustment moves the joint past its physiological barrier and that is the only way to incite change. Without the adjustment, we tend to move backwards because we are continually under stress that weakens us. Most other "therapies" just maintain you. In other words, keep you stuck with no improvement.

So, see you at the table...the adjusting table.
Dr. Lisa
