When People Are Wrong, They Are Wrong

Call to Action:  Take a hard look at what you were told all your life and realize, you can no longer listen to this inaccurate advice.

First, you know nothing resets the nervous system like a chiropractic adjustment.  And if an adjustment can wake up a person in a coma, (look it up), what are you waiting for?

Second, your chiropractic adjustment needs responsive organs and muscles.  Continuous dietary stress that inflames the organs is not conducive to the healing response.  What can the adjustment do for starving organs?  Sometime, nothing.

Dr, Darren Schmidt wants his audience to know that the current dietary guidelines are based on faulty science, and making all of us sick.

Only 12% of Americans are metabolically healthy.

When I talk about BFA: Brain First Always, I am focusing on the brain because what is good for the brain is good for the rest of the body.

Don't fall into the traps of information that is accepted but wrong.  I was listening to the same stuff because it came from well meaning people.  But, you eventually reach a point when you say, "I'm spinning my wheels."

If you are Ready for Different, get started with a few BFA Ready for Different Coaching sessions.

Charles Barkley is Hungry on W.W.

Of course he is.  He is very hungry.
He is not on a paleo program.
A low fat diet isn't going to make you happy.

The Diet Invites Disease

Our society is burdened with many very debilitating diseases
  • obesity
  • digestive problems (e.g. irritable bowel disease, a.k.a. IBD or IBS)
  • metabolic syndrome
  • autoimmune diseases
  • arteriosclerosis
  • heart disease
  • diabetes type 1 and 2
  • all chronic diseases -> THE diseases of Western countries!
  • hypertension
  • osteoporosis

We have a serious problem with medication usage that doesn't address how these diseases start.

Dr. Wolfgang Lutz was a pioneer in the low carb understanding.  His case studies have shown to be very provocative.  In his book, Life Without Bread, he even talks about cancer and the high carb correlation.  It is a must read.

Here is a paleo blog that also notes Dr. Lutz's wonderful understanding of diet and health.

How to Need Less Supplements

I've talked with people who buy over $300-$400 worth of supplements a month so they can have better health. I've also talked with people who go to Kinney's or WalMart and buy an antioxidant for $7.00. Who is healthier?

Did you say neither? I hope so.

It is an disputable fact that we need supplements because the food supply is grossly adulterated all the way from the farm to the store and then your home.

Soil nutrients are depleted, processed foods are made from GMO corn and other grains. Sugar use has skyrocketed in the last century giving us some pretty addictive desires for unhealthy foods. Even our mass farmed livestock are over fed grains and chemicals for a better profit outcome.

All that said, even with a steady diet of home cooked foods and fresh produce (as fresh as we can get from the store) we need to supplement with high quality vitamins, minerals, and adaptogenic nutricueticals.

I truly believe a good supplement routine is necessary for optimal health. Do you need to spend $300-$400 dollars a month? No. If you are ask yourself this: Am I feeling better? It is possible you still have nagging health issues.

Should you go to Kinney's and WalMart and buy what is on the shelves? No. You must have more on the label than a cheap price. A supplement company should be researched for its raw materials, bio-availability, and purity testing.

We know we need to make a small investment in supplements but how do we narrow down the choices?

The most important factor is your daily diet. At this point, evaluate how close you are to the Paleo-Primal diet. I say this because if you are not, you are probably taking needless supplements to help you with health issues related to your diet.

If you think your diet is healthy, visit my Myth of the Month website. And stick around on my new Time to GO Paleo blog. More is coming.

When you fix your diet, you will need less supplements.

Ask me about it at your next visit. We will discuss if you are getting enough protein. A poor protein balance can throw off Calcium, Magnesium, and Potassium . More minerals won't fix it. Protein intake will. We can talk about replacing grains with high fat foods that make your appetite happy and your waistline smaller.

Do You Have a Food Hangover & Not Know It?

I had too many carbs two days ago. It was a Friday. I had a headache on Saturday. I've been so good with my low carb eating plan that I felt bad that I over did it. Depending on how quickly I get back to my routine, I will still feel the effects of my overeating for one or two more days. I won't be gross, but other digestive maladies take a while to go away.

How about the folks who haven't gotten an handle on their food issues? People who can't lose weight or have constant stiffness or headaches are usually dealing with a stressed digestive system. When this happens the nerves connected to the digestive organs will send reflexes to their partner muscles and joints.

Every spinal nerve root delivers information for the organs and it's neighboring muscles.

If you are having a food hangover, you feel stiffness or pain in the musculo-skeletal system every time you move.

Ask me how chiropractic can translate these body reactions so you can get rid of your food hangover.

65% Are Fat & Sick: Don't Follow This Crowd

  • Some people are sick.
Some are sick and don't know it.
The rest try to live well but hit roadblocks all along the way.

There is something so terribly wrong when a statistic states there are more overweight people than thin people. Yesterday, I was listening to a radio show that was discussing the rarity of overweight school aged children many decades ago. Now, in a classroom of 30 kids, 10 of them are overweight or obese!

As a whole, we are paying attention to very ineffective interventions and ignoring the real problems.

Another complaint I have is this:
If you google "can you be overweight and healthy" the articles are full of opinions that are all over the place. Some say you can be healthy and overweight and some say there is a very strong risk of metabolic syndrome if the person doesn't already have it. READ MY PAST ARTICLES ON METABOLIC SYNDROME

If 65% of Americans are overweight or obese, we are believing a full set of lies about health and lifestyle.

Here's a short list of lies and poorly disseminated information:

You must take prescription drugs for health risks such as high blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, osteoporosis

High fructose corn syrup, or the new version "corn sugar" is similar to sucrose or table sugar made from cane or beets.

Artifical sweeteners are good choices especially for diabetics

    Low fat cooking is healthy

Whole grains are important in the diet

Losing weight only requires eating less and exercising more

The produce aisle is the healthiest place in the grocery store

The food guide pyramid is correct

The American Diabetic Association recommendations are healthy

Children who don't perform well in school have attention problems

    Children don't play enough outside

Dairy is important for strong bones

Supplements are not necessary if the diet has variety

There is no easy answer but there are easy explanations. Putting better habits into play is very difficult. The number one thing we have to do is turn our backs on big lobbies. In our capitalistic society we have to give "the little guy" a chance.

    Who are the little guys?

Mike Adams and Dr. Joseph Mercola instead of the AMA and other large associations. Mike Adams and Dr. Joseph Mercola are in pursuit of safe, natural health. They point out the dangers of drugs especially the drugs that are taught to be the best way to deal with a disease. Dr. Mercola began selling products not to make money but to pay for the many lawsuits many angry groups file against him. He offers safer, intelligent options and he gets sued. He does win, but it costs him.

Your local farms that grass feed and use organic practices. Mass farming is cheaper but very risky for our environment and health. GMO crops are creating diseases we will be unable to face in the future. Is cancer on the rise because of chemicals in farming and genetically manipulated seeds? By the way, Certified Organic Credentialing is so expensive, many small farms follow organic practices but do not seek the designation. Get to know the owners personally and ask they will proudly talk about their farming practices.

Your local dairy that does not pasteurize. Unpasteurized is the only healthy milk to drink. End of Story. Visit the Real Milk site for more information.

Supplements your natural health practitioners personally take, not products from GNC, Walmart, or Kinneys. We research how the products are made. If you aren't feeling better on store-shelf products, you're not buying bioavailable products. You can buy quality at a fair price, if you are committed to it.

Natural health practitioners who emphasize realistic low carb eating. What does that mean? You have to ask me to find out.

I know how hard it is to shake the health lies you grew up with. I had to go through the same internal fights. But that's what it is: internal. You make the decision to change your mind. But you never have to do it alone. It feels like you are alone, but you've got to stop believing what those 65% believe.

Vitamin D Needs Magnesium

Taking Vitamin D is futile without Magnesium.

When you take Vitamin D but do not have enough Magnesium, you will increase the Magnesium deficiency.

Taking Vitamin D does not raise Vitamin D levels when Magnesium deficiency is present.

Do you have a Magnesium deficiency? Here are some symptoms:

Constipation

Hypertension or high blood pressure

Anxiety

Depression

Insomnia

Fatigue

High Cholesterol

Muscle Cramps

Chronic Back Pain

Migraines

Muscular Pain

Tendonitis

Heart Disease

Atrial Fibrillation

Heart Palpitations

Osteoporosis

Diabetes

Sudden Death in patients with Congestive Heart Failure

Fibromyalgia

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Kidney Stones

Why are we deficient in Magnesium? It's in a lot of foods!

1. Prescription drugs
2. Caffeine
3. Calcium is a Magnesium antagonist
4. Fortified foods contain more Magnesium antagonists
5. Whole grains - due to phytates and fiber leeching out Magnesium

Interesting article:
Nearly everyone has a Magnesium deficiency and doesn't know it.

More on Magnesium

Dr. Lutz in his book: Life Without Bread discusses how a high carbohydrate diet interferes with absorption of vitamins and minerals.
Confused yet? Don't feel that way. Just count your carbs and keep it at 72 grams a day.
