When the doctor has troubles
Easy come easy go
So I let a mental stressor take over my life during the month of January. For my poor family, I was not that much fun at home, especially in the evenings when we were all tired at the end of the day. I worked through my issue and it has been a memory for quite some time. That was in January and it is now March.
The problem is the after effects. I let my diet go. I let my workouts go. I began staying up too late at night and found it more difficult to get up early enough to do an adequate work out. The diet is probably the easier one to fix. I resumed better eating with a sincere commitment to myself.
I began taking the Metagenics supplement, Phyto-Multi and this gave me fast improvements. I slept better and had more energy. I still have to make an effort to quit all my activities at 9 PM and just get to bed. I am getting better at that, as well.
My workouts were probably affected the most and that is a little disheartening. For two weeks at Christmas I allowed myself to eat anything I wanted and that didn't help when the new year rolled around. When your carbohydrate intake is too high, you cannot work out with your usual intensity. I always notice it the very next day after a high carbohydrate meal. I get tired very quickly and my muscles give out much too soon. It almost feels as if I am coming down with a cold. (What's the big deal with carbs?) (Whole grains are not your friend)
It's also easy to correct if too much time hasn't elapsed. If you lay off your work out for about two weeks you will have to start from scratch all over again. That's how quickly we lose muscle tone. If I go three days without a work out, I have to use lighter weights and take more rests.
During this time off the routine someone can easily come down with a cold or flu like illness and once that is over it takes even more time to get back into balance.
Lesson learned.
It isn't easy to get back up to speed. I am blaming it on boredom with my current collection of workout DVDs. Often we blame aging and old injuries. But should we?
Before the thaw of winter finally comes by spring, I will be back to my usual routine. I'm fed up with the dragging feeling.
So join me in turning over a new leaf ...or shamrock.
Don't forget to keep up with your adjustments. And remember, adjustments don't work when the interference is greater. Poor diet, lousy exercise, no sleep. dehydration, mineral deficiencies are all terrible interferences.
Stress effects have a prolonged effect. That is why people are depressed, overweight, diabetic, having issues with metabolic syndrome. The spine develops calcium deposits. Muscles become spasmed. Scar tissue takes hold. The brain loses healing connections with the body.
But not in our office. We are dedicated to health building.

Exercise is Futile When You're Toxic
Toxicity & Exercise QUIZ:
How do you know you are too toxic to exercise?
1. You don't exercise.
2. You don't like to exercise.
3. You only walk for exercise.
4. You only use a treadmill or climber for 30-60 minutes.
5. You haven't changed up your exercise routine in six months.
6. You don't ramp up your exercise routine.
If you answered "YES" to any of the above, you are toxic and unable to move your body effectively.
This means you lack the strength and stamina to perform a work out that consists of high intensity intervals which is the best way to stay fit and maximize your natural synthesis of growth hormone. READ MORE on exercise and growth hormone.
When you are toxic you are unable to release toxins from your body and you are also deficient in nutrients
that energize your body as well as cleanse the body.
First if you are doing long sessions of aerobic exercise, STOP IT. Read here to learn why.
Also, if you are considerably sore after your chiropractic adjustment or i can palpate very tender joints thoughout the spine and nearby muscles, you are toxic.
Time to detox.
Your eating habits allow you to exercise. You should not exercise to lose weight. At your next few appointments we can discuss how to fix the toxicity problem with simple diet changes and minimal supplementation. READ: How to Need Less Supplements.

What Does Your Iodine Deficiency Look Like?
Get the October 2011 issue of Life Extension Magazine and read about the connection between iodine deficiency and obesity, brain impairment, heart issues, mental disorders, and cancer.
Do you have an iodine deficiency?
Consider this:
1. You don't need to have a goiter to have an iodine deficiency
2. Manufacturers are not putting adequate amounts of iodine in their refined salt products.
3. Once cooked, salt loses iodine content
4. Sea salt has no iodine
5. Reducing your salt intake is also making the problem worse
6. If you eat more vegetables than meat, you are getting less iodine
7. If you exercise regularly you lose iodine in your sweat.
8. A common flavor enhancer for foods derived from the explosive/rocket fuel industry
blocks iodine from reaching the thyroid.
9. Iodine is important for breast health.
10. Breast cancer cells easily absorb iodine and the cells die.
11. Iodine is important for fibrocystic breast disease.
12. Iodine deficiency leads to abnormal heart rhythm.
13. Iodine deficiency contributes to abnormal lipid and cholesterol profiles (can't be fixed by a statin).
14. Thyroid hormone treatment is not good for an already weakened heart. (Iodine deficiency should be looked into first.)

65% Are Fat & Sick: Don't Follow This Crowd

Some people are sick.
Some are sick and don't know it.
The rest try to live well but hit roadblocks all along the way.
There is something so terribly wrong when a statistic states there are more overweight people than thin people. Yesterday, I was listening to a radio show that was discussing the rarity of overweight school aged children many decades ago. Now, in a classroom of 30 kids, 10 of them are overweight or obese!
As a whole, we are paying attention to very ineffective interventions and ignoring the real problems.
Another complaint I have is this:
If you google "can you be overweight and healthy" the articles are full of opinions that are all over the place. Some say you can be healthy and overweight and some say there is a very strong risk of metabolic syndrome if the person doesn't already have it. READ MY PAST ARTICLES ON METABOLIC SYNDROME
If 65% of Americans are overweight or obese, we are believing a full set of lies about health and lifestyle.
Here's a short list of lies and poorly disseminated information:
You must take prescription drugs for health risks such as high blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, osteoporosis
High fructose corn syrup, or the new version "corn sugar" is similar to sucrose or table sugar made from cane or beets.
Artifical sweeteners are good choices especially for diabetics
Low fat cooking is healthy
Whole grains are important in the diet
Losing weight only requires eating less and exercising more
The produce aisle is the healthiest place in the grocery store
The food guide pyramid is correct
The American Diabetic Association recommendations are healthy
Children who don't perform well in school have attention problems
Children don't play enough outside
Dairy is important for strong bones
Supplements are not necessary if the diet has variety
There is no easy answer but there are easy explanations. Putting better habits into play is very difficult. The number one thing we have to do is turn our backs on big lobbies. In our capitalistic society we have to give "the little guy" a chance.
Who are the little guys?
Mike Adams and Dr. Joseph Mercola instead of the AMA and other large associations. Mike Adams and Dr. Joseph Mercola are in pursuit of safe, natural health. They point out the dangers of drugs especially the drugs that are taught to be the best way to deal with a disease. Dr. Mercola began selling products not to make money but to pay for the many lawsuits many angry groups file against him. He offers safer, intelligent options and he gets sued. He does win, but it costs him.
Your local farms that grass feed and use organic practices. Mass farming is cheaper but very risky for our environment and health. GMO crops are creating diseases we will be unable to face in the future. Is cancer on the rise because of chemicals in farming and genetically manipulated seeds? By the way, Certified Organic Credentialing is so expensive, many small farms follow organic practices but do not seek the designation. Get to know the owners personally and ask they will proudly talk about their farming practices.
Your local dairy that does not pasteurize. Unpasteurized is the only healthy milk to drink. End of Story. Visit the Real Milk site for more information.
Supplements your natural health practitioners personally take, not products from GNC, Walmart, or Kinneys. We research how the products are made. If you aren't feeling better on store-shelf products, you're not buying bioavailable products. You can buy quality at a fair price, if you are committed to it.
Natural health practitioners who emphasize realistic low carb eating. What does that mean? You have to ask me to find out.
I know how hard it is to shake the health lies you grew up with. I had to go through the same internal fights. But that's what it is: internal. You make the decision to change your mind. But you never have to do it alone. It feels like you are alone, but you've got to stop believing what those 65% believe.

It’s day 2 of our winter wonderland. The county still has a travel advisory which means be very cautious while driving because conditions still are not good. Just about everything was closed yesterday. I hung around the office until mid-afternoon then called it quits because getting in and out of the car downtown was too much work. The parking situation was not ideal. Parking spaces were not plowed out and today there is still no way to get to a parking meter to put money in it. In fact, if you park on the street, there are no openings to get to the sidewalk. Someone has to walk almost a block to find a suitable passage way.
This happens just about every winter when that one big snow storm dumps a large amount very quickly and it takes a little longer to adapt to it. Every winter we are forced to adapt.
It is similar to the nervous system of the body to adapt. We are adapting everyday to the environment. If we remain aware of what we are putting our bodies through we can help it adapt. We can expose our bodies to appropriate things such as a good diet, routine exercise, and “reasonable” stress management. So, when a few crises come along, we can respond properly, adapt for a while, and then get back to regular function.
If the nervous system is continually bombarded with excessive stress, bouncing back to regular function does not happen. When the spine is burdened with chronic subluxations, regular function does not happen.
While we are all trying to adapt to this “winter mess,” our thoughts are not too positive. It is aggravating to be disrupted. There is extra work involved. The cold temperature seems to get to our last bit of patience. That means our psyches are adapting to a constant barrage of negative emotions. This too gets transplanted into the nervous system setting us up for an undesirable pattern that is difficult to reverse.
How do you want to adapt? How are you adapting now?
If the weather has kept you away from the office, that is understandable. Please get back in as soon as you can so your adapting mechanisms can be nurtured. If you want to have a better understanding of adapting mind and body so you can live your best life, ask me to discuss this further with you.
Enjoy the Journey!!
