Yesterday, I woke up with a stiff neck that hurt every time I turned my head or raised my arms. Time to go to the chiropractor with great urgency right?

What if I said, "No?"

Typically people get adjusted when they are in pain and that is fine. We are human and pain happens.

But the "die-hard" chiro that I am, I know chiropractic is not for pain. It is for healing energy.

If you want to heal well, get adjusted. If you want to heal from the things you don't even feel yet? Get adjusted.

I did not get adjusted yesterday. I will get adjusted at my regular appointment. "Once a week to stay at your peak." I already have a routine appointment scheduled.

How about you?

P. Psychological - What has been overwhelming your mind and emotions over the last few weeks?

Here is my personal analysis as I work through this injury:

P. I am not overly stressed over anything. Yep, you heard me right. The night before my stiff neck, I was relaxing watching a movie. The past week has been very quiet.

A. I did blow my low carb eating in a big way this week. I am probably short on trace minerals since carbs rob us of these. I could use more magnesium. I need to do a nutritional cleanse. All of us do after the holidays.

I. I did two workouts the day before my stiff neck appeared the next morning. I may have "slept funny." I also have a weakness since I injured my neck in 2008. I also have a "straight neck" with arthritis I attribute to a head injury when I was five years old. I fell head first into a radiator and had stitches on my forehead. No one at the ER suggested to my parents that I get checked for vertebral subluxations. How, I wished someone did.

N. I plan on sticking to my nervous system enhancing routine. Stress never takes a day off. I shouldn't either.

So what have I done so far? I did my workout that morning, being careful. I don't want to back track the rest of the week, I am keeping up on my workout schedule. Exercising also brings fresh blood flow to the area and that helps with inflammation. I drank extra water. And I went to bed early. I will get adjusted in a few days. I got up today and did an even harder workout. I'm on the mend.

Nothing special. The routine that I've always carried out prevented this injury from being worse.

In 1994 New York alternative healthcare advocates helped pass the Alternative Medical Practice Act designed to help guarantee that people would have access to alternative medical doctors by barring the State of New York from taking away the licenses of Alternative Medical Doctors just because they practiced alternative or non conventional medicine. Despite the passing of this legislation, the Medical Board bureaucrats who found a way to avoid the intent of the law. Alternative medical doctors were once again targeted and eliminated from medicine. Here are three examples:

■Dr. Jennifer Daniels (I briefly volunteered in her office to help her organize her records for her defense. She had files of testimonials praising her.)
■Dr. Rebecca Carley
■Dr. Serafina Corsello


Dr. Jennifer Daniels, MD of Syracuse was brought up on charges after successfully treating a patient with diabetes using only diet and exercise. In spite of a highly publicized study unveiled by the Secretary of Health & Human Services proving that diet and exercise was more effective than drug treatment. Eventually Dr. Daniels got her license back after it was suspended for two years, but the cost was devastating. The doctor was financially depleted and no medical employer was willing to hire her despite impeccable educational & medical credentials(Harvard BA, University of Pennsylvania MD). She is planning on leaving the country And that is a successful case.

Dr. Rebecca Carley, MD from Hicksville, Long Island successfully pioneered a treatment to reverse the injuries from vaccines such as autism and autism spectrum disorders, which have been growing. Dr. Carley has a public access cable TV show "What's Ailing America; Dr. Carley Responds" in which she was able to reach a larger audience warning of the potential dangers of vaccines and other political issues. Dr. Carley's license was suspended in July 2003. The suspension was solely on the basis of her "psychological impairment". This was an arbitrary attempt to control her speech, both medical and political. Dr. Carley's has been doing nutritional and lifestyle counseling, but is facing severe financial hardship.

Dr. Serafina Corsello, MD was one of the best known alternative practitioners. She was on the first advisory commission advising the Office of Alternative Medicine of the NIH in 1992. She published a book "The Ageless Woman", had two large medical centers one in midtown Manhattan and the other in Huntington, Long Island. She has and continues to lecture all over the country and in many parts of the world on nutrition and women's health. Charges were brought against her for too much testing, use of vitamin therapy, Chelation therapy and diagnosing lead toxicity. Unfortunately her lawyer filed the answer to the charges too late and the state deemed that she admitted to all the charges. Her medical license was revoked.


Write Not Practice

To avoid such prosecution, doctors who have realized that alternatives are better than pharmaceuticals, often write books or newsletters about alternative treatments. This allows these doctors do what they always wanted: help people conquer their health challenges and keep them safe. These doctors have realized that alternative treatments are easy enough for patients to self-administer as long as the patient is educated regarding possible side effects.

Chiropractors are nutritional counselors under their New York State licenses. They recommend nutrition for health maintenance. Other health consultants also can provide nutritional counseling in NYS as long as they do not call themselves certified nutritionists or dieticians.

Thankfully, there are options for the consumer for safe, natural health care. It takes a personal commitment and you can't rely on insurance. When you can, do more bare foot walking so the body gets more efficient use of the lower extremity muscles.

"I discovered the back protective effect of the Gluteus maximus by accident.
It happened like this. I was experimenting with Gluteus maximus contraction while standing on one leg. In order to make it a routine, I fitted the exercise in to my cooking routine (Dad makes the breakfast in our household). I was suffering from a "bad back", (pain upon lumbar flexion) at that time. The bad back was not my major problem, and I was intending to work on it later. After 2 months, the Gluteus maximus exercises had "fixed" the "bad back"! Geri L. Carlson revealed her anguish and then resentment as she struggled through years of illness. Part of the time she didn't realize how ill she was, since she felt she was typical as she saw health through her nursing background.

She wrote her book, I Stand Amazed: How Chiropractic Saved My Life, which began a mission to assist others who need counseling and education during personal crisis. Her non-profit organization Hope Blvd will be unveiled soon.

She heeds a very important warning to others because she did not take seriously the warnings her chiropractor gave her. All her other health care practitioners treated her in parts, not acknowledging what makes her whole: the guidance of living impulses travelling through the nervous system.

Her personal story is shocking and eye opening. I encourage every practice member to learn more about Geri L. Carlson. She is inspiring.

When Service is a Disservice


People are always looking for service. It is usually fast service which actually turns out to be a disservice most of the time.

Sure, I want to be in and out at the bank so I don't get a parking ticket, but there are times when I need to slow down.

One example is when I am having my car worked on. I need to understand how my car is going to be repaired and what will happen if I don't stick to the maintenance schedule.

I also need to slow down and read the information in my credit card statements, or I will end up with unwanted fees on my bill.

It is very important to slow down when we are in the chiropractor's office because important information needs to be heard and understood. For years the chiropractic profession has been dealing with the lay public repeating misinformation about spinal adjustments.

Most people gather health information from their friends. When someone says he or she went to the chiropractor, the other person only hears this part, "I got better."

The reasons for poor health, the process of self healing, and how adjustments need to be supported are usually left out.

The best service is thorough service. For anything we buy, we need to prepare ourselves for thoroughness with an open mind and allowing extra time. We've all known people who ritually plan their vacations obsessing over every detail, but little time and thought goes into everyday activities.

Remember when looking for a quick fix, it isn't much of a fix. When you know what you want, please take the time to consider the best route.

Health care might have short cuts. Vitalistic wellness does not.

A Tale of Two Nervous Systems


This is a tale of two nervous systems that can help you understand why your self-concept is so important in how you decide to take care of your health.

The first nervous system is well known. The brain and spinal cord act together to coordinate all the functions of the body. The brain and spinal cord also interpret thoughts in a way that affects hormones and neurotransmitters which leads us to believe emotions play a role in how well the body responds to stress. We know the nerves that exit the spine connect the muscles and organs to the brain as well as to each other.

The other nervous system is invisible. It cannot be seen on an MRI. It cannot be dissected by an anatomist in a lab. It is the innate intelligence that makes us alive. Innate intelligence is the most natural gift of the human body that communicates creation and healing. Innate intelligence tells a tree to grow from a tiny seed to a large monstrosity. Innate intelligence initiates cell division and organ formation when the egg and sperm meet.

The invisible innate intelligence relies on a healthy super highway in order to deliver the expressions of life. This super highway is the physical nervous system. Innate intelligence and the brain and spinal cord work together to do amazing things we will never fully understand. But, we can nurture our lives in the most unique way through chiropractic care.

How we value the invisible nervous system is reflected by the way we care for the visible nervous system.

You Wouldn't Know ________ If It Bit You!



You've heard this comment many times before. I recall my mom saying it all the time. I guess I just wasn't as observant as she was. If I was looking for something I misplaced she would point it out to me that it was right in front of my face. She also used the old saying, "If it was a snake it would have bitten you."



Many times we are looking for something but our mind has a different idea of what it truly is in reality. Maybe that's why we keep looking for it.



Take health, for instance.



People know they want to feel better, but they don't know health.



Sometimes when they experience health it scares them. A fever or vomiting puts people in a panic, but they are signs of health. The body is trying to protect itself and creates these reactions to subdue and eliminate pathogens.



Others may not know health because they assume fatigue and aches are "normal."



Not knowing what creates health leads others to do unhealthy things due to misinformation. Taking drugs that have dangerous side effects and are very difficult to stop because they cause "rebound" illness is an example. Many surgical procedures have been deemed ineffective but people want to try something, even if it has poor outcomes.



So what creates health?



Health is not medicine. It is not prevention. Health is an optimal state that comes from the life force that automatically maintains your body as long as stress levels are manageable. The body doesn't work alone. The mind also plays a role. Life force directs the mind-body to express itself based on environmental conditions.



Life force is invisible but we see it in action through the nervous system. We show our appreciation by taking care of health in ways that are nurturing. Chiropractic care of the spine & nervous system is #1 on the list.

Sometimes we don't know health until we lose it. Chiropractic teaches us to be more in tune with our functioning, and more aware.

The Wellness Book Club


I have a number of practice members who I talk to about the books we are reading. It is sort of like an informal book club during their adjustment.


I told someone about the book 10 10 10 by Suzy Welch the other day. 10-10-10 means thinking about what really matters when you are in the middle of a frustrating or stressful situation. Ms. Welch advised us to stop for a moment and decide what the impact of the situation will be in the next 10 minutes, then 10 months, then 10 years.


Someone said to me, "I could have used that last night."


In the realm of health and spinal stability, how will your mechanical, chemical, and emotional stress effect you in the next ten minutes, ten months, ten years? This is why my office is a weekly lifetime care office and visits are discounted for wellness care. Stress damage is sneaky. Consistent care counts.

Dave Ramsey Can Equate Money with Health


Dave Ramsey always has pearls of wisdom on his radio show.


Today I heard him say, "You will never borrow yourself into success."


He often preaches that borrowing money for business is not ideal. Starting small, buying as you go and expanding as the business increases is the way to
last long term.
The same can be said for personal health.


You cannot drug yourself into health.

Taking prescription drugs is like borrowing on a currency system that will collapse.
Health will only change through sincere behavior change.

Free to a Good Home: Health


Health isn't free. It takes work and personal effort (outside the doctor's office). If someone gives away a puppy, it needs to go to a good home. The owner must be responsible enough to attend to the puppy's needs. Most animal shelters will interview the future owner to make sure the pup and the owner are a good match.

That doesn't happen with health. We all have come with a body and a brain, but not a how-to manual. Hopefully, the vitalistic message of self-directed health care is getting out there to the masses. Your interest and desire to spread the word is very important. As wellness enthusiasts, all my readers have the opportunity to influence others and maybe save someone's life with important health information.

Trauma

We usually think of trauma as a direct injury that causes pain and distress. However, a sedentary lifestyle is also a serious cause of trauma. Why? Because our body was made to move! The more we move, the more we are able to move – and the more we want to move. The less we move, the less we are able to move. Our muscles and other tissues shorten and atrophy. Toxins

Between these "exotoxins" (toxins created outside our body), and "endotoxins" (toxins created inside our body), we are bathed in inflammation-producing poison every moment of every day. Any successful strategy for reducing inflammation must address the level of toxins we face.

Deficiency

Deficiencies also cause inflammation. For example, an omega-3 essential fatty acid (EFA) deficiency leaves the cell walls weak and unable to function normally. Again, cells are like balloons. If the balloon membrane is too thin, even a normal amount of air will make it pop. If the cell wall is too thin because of an omega-3 EFA deficiency, even normal cell activity will cause the cell to pop and trigger the domino effect of inflammation. Similarly, deficiency of other nutrients can have a catastrophic effect on cells within your body. (A deficiency in oxygen, water, sleep and circulation can also trigger inflammation.)

Stress

Emotional distress is also a cause of inflammation. When we appraise a situation to be stressful, our brain releases chemicals called catecholamines that trigger the release of many inflammatory processes. For example, stress causes the release of insulin – a pro-inflammatory hormone. Too much stress over too long a period of time will cause insulin resistance (IR), which is associated with obesity. Other stress-related chemicals reduce circulation to our digestive and reproductive systems and trigger inflammation from blood deficiency. Stress is a serious cause of inflammation!

What does inflammation feel like?
It feels like:
pain
soreness
stiffness
fibromyalgia
fatigue
heart conditions
high blood pressure
diabetes
weight gain

and...it can feel completely painless.

From crisis thinking to critical thinking

We're all lousy during a crisis.

Chiropractic to some is just a quick crack to make them feel better.
To others it takes more than a quick crack. Chiropractic care on a regular basis helped them work slowly through long term stress on their spine and organs. There are others who caught on right away to the understanding that chiropractic keeps lighting a small spark that infuses the nervous system with intelligent energy. They know the best time for chiropractic is when they are doing fairly well.

When you come in for care, at your first visit I will push you to change from crisis thinking to critical thinking. When we are in a crisis, we don’t think well at all and leave it up to others to take care of us. Once the crisis is over, I want people to “rethink” how they will take care of themselves.

I want them to rethink that the power that made the body heals the body and seeking something outside of the body is more likely foreign and out of sync with the body. We need to think critically about our actions and thoughts that may not be helpful to us so we can replace them. Congruency will bring us better health.

Cholesterol Lies We Will Take to the Grave


Muscle pain and weakness are big signs your body tissues are breaking down. Let that last part of the sentence sink in. Body tissues are breaking down. Since we don't just disintegrate instantly like something out of science fiction, we still need to take this situation seriously so we don't accelerate the problem with over the counter drugs, poor nutrition and dehydration.

Dr. Mercola wrote another article on the cholesterol myth that makes people think they can't live without statin drugs.

He notes cholesterol is a life saving component of cells keeping cell membranes intact. It is so important the liver recylces it. But we are on a quest to keep it low???? That's like starvation.

Statin drugs actually activate a gene that causes muscle atrohpy. Talk about accelerated aging. Other side effects are increased cancer risk, depression, dizziness, nerve damage in the hands and feet, cognitive problems such as memory loss, and liver problems.

Cholesterol will rise when the body is trying to protect itself. We need to find out why it is stressed and reverse the stress (instead of drug it).

Often stress responses become unhealthy patterns memorized by the nervous system. Be sure to "unwind" the nervous system with chiropractic adjustments.

Cholesterol is a direct response to inflammation. The better approach is ask why is the body so inflammed?

Here are some reasons from Dr. Mercola:
•Oxidized cholesterol (cholesterol that has gone rancid, such as that from overcooked, scrambled eggs)
•Eating lots of sugar and grains
•Eating foods cooked at high temperatures
•Eating trans fats
•A sedentary lifestyle
•Smoking
•Emotional stress

I will also add this: dehydration.

Please look at the logical reasons the body is stressed.
Our bodies are not defective. It does all it can to preserve your life.

Get More Water, Especially Before Bed



I've talked about it over and over during office visits. Waking up in pain is a sign of dehydration. Not getting enough water is an enormous but easily fixable problem. Visit Dr. B's famous website Water Cure.

The body needs water for night time body work. The body is digesting and assimilating the diet most of the night and water is needed for these metabolic processes.

Getting enough water before bed will actually help you sleep better and stop the nighttime bathroom visits. You may disagree, but it's true. Try it.

Worker's Compensation Benefits at Risk

Worker's Compensation is trying to change the laws in NYS to make chiropractic, (among other treatments) limited. Read about the law here.

It is an attempt to save money, but in the long run will make people sicker and make them more prone to disability.

Time is running out to make our personal comments known to the committee. Please write a letter to the committee using such as the following example:

Dear Ms. Wood:

I am an injured worker and a chiropractic patient in the State of New York. It has come to my attention that the Workers’ Compensation Board has published proposed medical treatment guidelines for use by practitioners working within the Workers’ Compensation system. I am writing to express my concerns regarding the guidelines in their current form.

My greatest concern with the medical treatment guidelines as they are proposed is that I will not be able to receive the treatment I need to continue to fully recover from my injury. The guidelines provide an outline for treatment of a typical, uncomplicated case. If my injury turns out to not be a typical case, then I fear I may be denied the treatment I need. Additionally, if my doctor is using a treatment that is not recommended in the guidelines, but is working for me nonetheless, the doctor may not be allowed to provide that treatment anymore. This is distressing. As a patient injured on the job, my goal is to return to work as quickly as possible and I do not want anything to hinder my ability to get better and go back to my job. Finally, I do not want to be in pain. What will happen if I follow the course of treatment recommended by my doctor but I am still in pain and the guidelines do not recommend any more treatment? I am very worried about what will happen then.

My doctor explained to me that representatives of the chiropractic profession have submitted formal comments and offered specific recommendations concerning the proposed medical treatment guidelines to make sure that only appropriate and necessary care is rendered to injured workers in New York State. I urge you in the strongest possible way to carefully review these submissions and adopt those changes where necessary and appropriate.

I hope that my comments, and the comments submitted by state chiropractic organizations provide you with a comprehensive overview of the injured worker under chiropractic care, and the chiropractic profession’s concern with the current version of the proposed New York State Workers’ Compensation Board Medical Treatment Guidelines.

My people die from a lack of knowledge



Watch this video of Dr. Chester Wilk. I talked with him a year ago about the need to spread the word on safety in health care and how chiropractic plays a crucial role.

He notes that chiropractors in hospitals would greatly reduce the need for surgeries and drugs. The dollars saved would be in the millions. How about the lives saved?

The drug industry spends more money on selling drugs than it does on making drugs. Does that make sense?

Chiropractic has more published studies on adjustments than many medical treatments.

He also says the current health care crisis is like putting a band aid on a hemorrhage when a tourniquet is needed.

He quotes Jesus, who is our greatest physician: "My people die from a lack of knowledge."

Would you gain 90 pounds for a good cause?

Meet Paul "PJ" James. He is a personal trainer and model. He decided to gain weight so he could see what it was like for people struggling to lose weight. In five months he gained 90 pounds eating anything he wanted, whenever he wanted. He could eat 4 pizzas in one sitting. His calorie intake was about 15,000 per day. The average person needs about 2,000 calories a day so he was eating enough food for 7 people.

Most people don't gain weight that quickly. We put on 2-5 pounds a year gradually eating a diet we consider normal or maybe a little bit indulgent. Naturally his health was affected and he had a lot of pain. His liver and kidney functioning were becoming stressed and his blood sugar was putting him at risk for diabetes.

Last July he began working out to lose the weight and had his experiences filmed for a documentary that will be out soon. He isn't revealing anything more, since we have to watch it when it comes out for public viewing. I will be curious to hear how he worked through his obstacles. He stated the emotional impact take a very big toll on him.

I wouldn't recommend this kind of experiment, but it will be interesting to see what kind of changes he will institute with his future clients. Looking for the big secret or lucky approach seems to grab the headlines because obesity and overweight issues but his story will certainly provide insight on the long term needs of anyone who is overwhelmed with health concerns.

In his situation, he was speeding up the aging process creating the foundation for diseases that typically become problematic for older adults. The bad news is seen in children and young adults who are now developing type II diabetes, now a recent phenomenon.

I welcome you to learn more about the Vital Aging Protocol that is now offered in the office. We will address the five causes of aging:

Mr. James experienced all these with his experimental life style change.

If he relied on pain medication, anti-inflammatories, prediabetes and cholesterol meds, this will be an interesting caveat since people on medication hang on to weight gain due to the toxic nature of drugs.

What Hank Med Can Teach Us



If you haven't watched the USA show, Royal Pains, you have been enjoying the summer outside. Congratulations. I caught up on a few episodes online and found it to provide an interesting lesson about underlying healthy risks that we all take for granted.

In one episode Dr. Hank Lawson discovered an actor who had numbness in his legs and poor balalnce was suffering from zinc poisoning. Part of his costume was a denture made up of scary teeth so he could be the ominous "Garbage Collector." His use of denture cream made him so toxic he was loosing control of his muscles. How many elderly people are given prescription drugs to combat muscular problems that are assumed to be a part of aging?

With another client, he discovered old chemicals in the client's basement causing mercury poisoning which was causing sleeplessness, anxiety and poor coordination. Not everyone the luxury of a doctor that makes home visits but it is telling how important environmental health is for us.

It is crucial that we take a dissecting look at what is around us at home and at work. Chemicals that seem innocent are in shampoo and make up. The gargage probably contains decades of dangerous products. Electrical appliances also disuptive to our delicate inner electrical systems within the brain and nervous systems.

Doctors may ask a lot of pertinent health questions, but because they really have no idea how you are living on a daily basis, they don't know you at all.

Your Prevention Practices are Inadequate

Chronic degenerative disease is a major problem in the U.S. It is a big reason why health care reform is wanted so badly but is unable to be successful. Sickness is expensive when prevention is inadequate.

Most of us practice inadequate prevention without even knowing it. Sure, fitness is a big deal. Eating properly is a big deal. But, we don't go far enough. We feel good in our minds knowing we are attempting to have better lifestyles, but it doesn't add up and the statistics show it. You can click on the chart above to see it enlarged.

If diet and exercise is not enough, what are we supposed to do? You have to understand the more specific causes of ill health. When I was writing God Made Women Not Estrogen Dominance, it became clearer to me that there are many environmental and societal problems not addressed in the health care industry. That is why I have nicknamed it Half Care Health Care.


The solution is to learn about the "missing links" in what creates health. While you are doing this, you will need to let go of the "links" that are not useful in this endeavor. Many old ideas about health are based on fighting disease once it pops up. This is disempowering because the stress of dealing with a crisis can take away someone's resolve to learn about natural options that rebuild health.

If someone is dealing with a diagnosed disease, it is necessary to find out how to rebuild health, not fight the disease process. The disease process is a signal that the body hasn't been rebuilding on a consistent basis. We can learn how to fill in the gaps. Someone in this situation can talk to me about CMAS (crypto-metabolic aging syndrome) and how to address it through self-directed natural care.

A Dedication to Important Decision Makers

I saw the need to focus on this stage of women's lives because (1) I am in it now, and (2) a better understanding and welcoming of menopause is the better way to deal with a whole host of other chronic diseases. What is not being communicated in the medical media is that all diseases are related in some fashion to premenopause and beyond.

Rather than look at all health issues separately, we need to look at them from a maturing standpoint. For women it is before, during, and after menopause. (Men have a similar change and can be addressed in an almost similar fashion.)

Premenopause and menopause are recognized as troublesome times in a woman's life. It is treated like a disease in the allopathic model. Even with a more natural approach, symptoms are treated one by one with different herbs and supplements and the overall process of "the change" is underappreciated.

One common theme that seems to be invisible is the toxin connection. The older we get, the more toxic we become and these pollutants trapped in our bodies confuse the nervous system as well as the hormonal feed back system.

Toxins are recognized as a frustrating culprit in weight gain, but it should now be more noticed in all issues of aging, especially premenopause.

And, women beyond menopause still need to be concerned about menopause even though they no longer have their periods. They still need to detox and restore balance, but medicine treats them as if they are men since they are past the reproductive years. This is an attitude change that will only happen when older women demand it from their health care providers.

I've also included a revised edition of The Numbers Don't Lie Diet, so the book is full of two concerns common to women.

The book is designed as a guide for women who want to take more control over their health so they still have time to be the important guide in the lives of their families. To them, I have dedicated the book.

Do you have enough faith in your self care and lifestyle habits that you would cancel your health insurance? Surprisingly, there are people who do not have health insurance by their own choice and most of them are not rich and famous.

Health savings accounts are on the rise as an option for those who want more flexibility in their health care spending. A savings account for out of pocket costs is allowed to grow with funds that would normally be used for expensive insurance premiums.

Health savings accounts are very popular for folks who spend their own money on prevention care such as gym memberships, holistic services, and weight loss support groups. This serves people who want less insurance but more discretionary spending money for wellness care.

Charlotte Gerson is one person who stopped buying health insurance when she was in her early thirties. Now in her eighties, she still works full time running the Gerson Institute in San Diego, California, and makes time to visit patients at the Gerson clinic in Tijuana, Mexico.

Her father, Dr. Max Gerson, developed a plant based diet to help people heal from various diseases. All her life she has followed her father’s protocol for cancer prevention and healthy living. Seeing enough people respond under his management, she prefers to follow this program rather than use prescription drugs. She stated this very confidently in a documentary film about her father’s legacy.

While Charlotte Gerson had an incredible experience working with her famous father, very few of us get the opportunity to watch people with terminal conditions regain their health. To most of us, just talking about disease makes us nervous wondering if we are truly healthy enough to live out our later years with pleasure.

From the chiropractic point of view the worst disease is a nervous system that is too damaged to regulate the immune system. When body systems cannot bounce back from stress, chronic diseases are more likely to take hold.

Most scientists agree that drugs manage symptoms but do not resolve sickness. Lifestyle habits such as eating well, exercising, and abstaining from smoking play more of a role in helping people heal from illness and injuries.

Adding chiropractic to one’s routine will boost these efforts by enhancing nerve responses at spinal joints. A study published in 2005 showed regular chiropractic care increased serum thiol levels demonstrating an increased level of DNA repair. Damaged DNA is linked to aggressive disease processes.

There are many non-intervention types of care that protect people from disease but are not covered under insurance. When chiropractic and other similar services are not covered people will deny themselves the opportunity to enhance their healing ability.

My message to them is to bargain shop for car rentals and towels, but not to skimp on wellness care like chiropractic. While we hope for an all inclusive health care reform, our own well being is up to us. Don’t wait for prevention to catch on. Get it for yourself.

PCD is the best deal in town


I am constantly going over the demographics of who is coming to the office and how I can get more people interested in chiropractic as their first choice in health care before resorting to drugs and surgery.

I don't have a lot of faith in health care reform because the bureaucratic hoops we will all have to jump through will be worse. Everyone's best bet is to stay healthy and practice a lot of prevention.

I've been looking at other chiropractic discount programs to see how they compare and I must say Preferred Chiropractic Doctor (PCD) stands out as the best. I haven't found any other program that is less than $30 a year for an individual. I've even seen some that tell me what to charge. Others require auto debit from bank accounts.

While chiropractic is still covered under some insurance plans, it only pays for short term pain. This does not do much for our long term health. One of my chiropractic mentors always tells his practice members: "Keep coming once a week until one of us dies." He's got the right idea. Now that I've been adjusting the same people for ten years,I see the difference between consistent chiropractic and sporadic chiropractic.

Cash chiropractic is the best chiropractic. Only you and I decide what is best for your long term health. Not a third party who doesn't know you and care about you.

This year will be my 15th year of getting regular adjustments myself. It has made a wonderful difference in my life. Eirne has been getting adjusted since he was 4 days old and he was such an easy baby.

Please let others know how easy it is to get under chiropractic care.
