Changing Head Space Especially with Diet

Gas Lighting has become one of those hot buzz words in the last few years.  I can say I feel as if I am in gas lighting territory just because I am talking about food choices for healing.  And, everyone knows, you don't talk about politics, religion, and now meat based dieting!!!

Today, on Valentine's Day, when chocolate is the prized celebratory sweet treat, I am disappointed.  Why?  Stick around.

I used to look forward to my chocolate break each day.  It was dark chocolate with coconut or almonds.  I would eat a couple of ounces if it stayed within my carb limit.  Back then I was tracking carbs, protein and fats.  

The change took place around last summer when I started to experiment with the carnivore diet. I found the zero-carb approach to be very intriguing but I ignored it for about two years because I really enjoy a variety of foods.  I already gave up my sugar and grains many years ago and the thought of giving up  even more so called foods was hard to accept,

It was around July 2019 that I decided the benefits of carnivore were very obvious.  I was aware of the protein sparing fast and better understood the purpose of protein.  When I finally absorbed the fact that carbohydrates are never needed, I said, "Why not? I've tried all the other diets.  I'm diving in."

I'm not 100% carnivore.  I call it carnivore/ keto cycling.  I feel better without salad.  I will eat small condiment portions of cooked veggies from time to time.  I still cheat on occasion with a keto snack or small sweet treat, but something has changed.

The enjoyable anticipated taste is now only retained in my memory.  When I actually taste an old favorite, it's not the same.  It's definitely not enjoyable because it doesn't match my memory.

Most recently, keto bars, dark chocolate, and almond butter do not taste good to me.  The almond butter is tasteless and dark chocolate is almost repulsive.  

To me this is remarkable.  I sometimes wonder how I will manage with less variety, but then I say to myself, "So what?"  Is it a big deal?  It's time for my head space to change.  And this is the change people fight.  I've been fighting it for a long time.  How you programmed your brain becomes quite evident when you reach the point that you are aware a new positive change is out there and you are quarreling with yourself.

Peer pressure is a strong challenge, as well.  Now, you are breaking from the pack and the pack "don't like it."  Have you been gas lighted because your tribe just doesn't know how to handle your new behavior?

If you want to see the saddest form of gas lighting, watch Paul Saladino try to share his enthusiasm for the carnivore diet on the wildly ratings hungry show called The Doctors.  You'll have to search for it on YouTube.  Much of the episode has been chopped up into 4 minute clips, but other commentaries are available, as well. 

Back to my carnivore preference for eating, I was very averse to giving up vegetables.  I was vegetarian for ten years from 1992 to 2002 so I've been on both sides of the table, so to speak.  But in fifty years of eating, the toxic side of plant matter has been downplayed very well.  Just consider it. 

Processed foods such as sugar, grains and seed oils are very bad.  We accept this.  

But what about the natural toxins in plants? Just a short list: 

  • Lectins
  • Gluten
  • Oxalates
  • Phytates
  • Glucosinolates
  • Tannins

I have been drawn to the ancestral /traditional way of eating which matches nature more closely.  For example, many plant foods are only in season for a few weeks, so we were not building up these toxins at high levels.  We did more fasting in the "olden days" because we didn't have truck deliveries and refrigerators.  Many plant foods were fermented for days to weeks to denature the toxic aspect.  Meat was hunted and not fed corn and soy in feed lots.  

Some people cannot tolerate high vegetable consumption. The digestive problems alone are now connected to autoimmune disorders.  So, in the BFA Protocol of Feeding Your Brain, I focus on the Ketolox Phasing Program so people can promote their best ways to absorb all the nutrients in foods. 

One thing I miss is going to a coffee shop and to chat with friends.  I can still do it, but I have to ignore the donuts and hot chocolate.   (I'm not a coffee or tea fan for other health reasons.) I just have to be satisfied with a bottle of water, or bring my own snacks.  The company I am with is more important.

When People Are Wrong, They Are Wrong

Call to Action:  Take a hard look at what you were told all your life and realize, you can no longer listen to this inaccurate advice. 


First, you know nothing resets the nervous system like a chiropractic adjustment.  And if an adjustment can wake up a person in a coma, (look it up), what are you waiting for?

Second, your chiropractic adjustment needs responsive organs and muscles.  Continuous dietary stress that inflames the organs is not conducive to the healing response.  What can the adjustment do for starving organs?  Sometime, nothing.  

Dr, Darren Schmidt wants his audience to know that the current dietary guidelines are based on faulty science, and making all of us sick.

Only 12% of Americans are metabolically healthy.  

When I talk about BFA: Brain First Always, I am focusing on the brain because what is good for the brain is good for the rest of the body. 

Don't fall into the traps of information that is accepted but wrong.  I was listening to the same stuff because it came from well meaning people.  But, you eventually reach a point when you say, "I'm spinning my wheels."

Doctors Not Moved By Drug Company Lies

If Doctors Really Supported Patient Rights, Pharma Would Close Down Forever.

Call to Action: Evaluate how much you tolerate dishonesty when it comes to allopathic professions that focus on peer pressure rather than doing no harm. 

I can't speak for any individual physician, and I certainly can't speak for other chiropractors.  Yes, I admit I am not interested in much of what the current chiropractic associations promote.  (That's another topic.)

The truth is out there, but it is ignored.  There is so much fraud and dishonesty with the regulation of pharmaceutical products, I can't understand why there is such a high worship of drugs.  

Safety regulations are completely violated If physicians really acknowledge this, they would refuse to write another script.   Listen to Pam Popper's explanation of this huge disservice.   I am stunned by this information.  But not surprised.  Really, if your doctor stood up for you, there would not be another drug given out.  The track record of the regulators is so poor and it has become a joke behind the scenes.  If this was how airplanes and cars were sold, we'd all be riding bikes. 

Why do I speak about this?  Because drugs don't heal you.  Your own healing ability within your physiology does the hard work.  You are the healer.  And if you have trouble believing it, you will have trouble healing. 

It's not a secret that drugs do harm.  They are toxins, but that tends to be downplayed in an attempt to manipulate body systems. The government's regulations are not followed and the consequences for law breakers are not handed out.  

The blatant disregard of safety should make the pubic angry.  People are unwittingly taking drugs assuming they are safe.

What else can I say about this?  This is why I am here.  This is why we have drug-less healing professions such as chiropractic.

You Can't Exhaust Yourself Into Health

Yeah, that's the goofiest saying I just came up with this morning.  

But, people actually do think they can keep going, going, going, and it's no big deal. 

Health is not complicated.  Stop chasing technological miracles and new drugs........Please.....Please.....Please.

You need nerve energy (chiropractic), nutrient energy, and  simple knowledge of mind body healing.  

Here's the scoop:

You need to sleep.  You need a sleep routine.  Training your brain to start relaxing at a designated (and early) bedtime is key.

You must take things off your plate.  Certain foods, yes. But with this scenario, take activities off your plate.  Don't get suckered into that extra task that makes you work late.  Maybe pass on the next volunteering activity.  

If you are so busy that you have let the laundry pile up, let it pile up just for a little bit longer.  I know, some things take all of your time and they might be once a year commitments.  Ok, let the house be messy for a little while as long as you know you'll get to it soon.

But, don't leave your health in the back corner or back burner. 
Remember, "Nobody puts Baby in the corner."  


If you're stuck in an important job, you still need to get your sleep.  Even hospital residents have to keep their hours under control. 

You may think you can push yourself past your limits.  But why?  

You can get more done with a clear thinking brain, rather than a stressed out, multi-tasking brain.  

Your body will tell you when it has had enough.  You may not like it.  

Go be a positive ripple effect in your community.  But do it with a healthy mind-set.

Save Your Heart in a Way No One Else Will

 Call to Action: Take note of this information if it is brand new to you.  It will help you understand how to take better control of your health. 
This video made by Dr. Darren Schmidt is 2 years old, but the information is still very important. What strikes me is that people are unaware of the Coronary Artery Calcium Score.  It is not invasive and is not a budget wrecker if you pay out of pocket. 

Are you more important that the bureaucratic policy pushers who don't care about you personally?

He makes an important point about calcium build up.  It is a sign that the body tried many times to heal the body and used calcium as a last resort to provide protection.  Calcium does not belong in the heart, as the heart is a muscle that does not get the opportunity to rest like a skeletal muscle.  You already know calcium in the wrong places just as the eyes, kidneys, joints, are problematic, but in the heart it's more than problematic.  He mentioned the patient who had TB and calcium formed an inactive abscess type covering in order to wall off the infection from the lung. 

If you have calcium in the wrong places, thank your body for working hard for you.  Next, give your body better attention and take the steps he mentions to protect your heart.  

Also remember your brain directs the sympathetic nervous system to make the heart work harder when it is necessary, so take care of your brain, as well.  Dr. Schmidt's recommendations also help the brain.  

As far as diabetes goes, all disease is a form of diabetes.  You must approach your diet in this manner.   The insulin test he mentions is much more accurate than a fasting blood glucose or A1C.  These two tests can  be normal on a lab report, but you could still have diabetes and not know it because the body can tolerate dietary insult for a long time before  tissue break down occurs or insulin is at an exhaustive level.

Call to Action: Understanding the insidious nature of insulin resistance will help you work on the life style habits that will make your chiropractic more profound and effective.

Insulin resistance is a strong driver of the economy.  Look at it from childhood to older ages:

The insulin resistant pregnant mom gives birth to a baby suffering from nutrition deficiencies.   (Also, born with subluxations.)

The insulin resistant toddler doesn't meet developmental milestones and requires different therapies.  (Probably still subluxated.)

The insulin resistant child is prone to frequent colds, asthma, and misses a lot of school.  Also, the child has learning disabilities and needs more services.  (Subluxations still there getting very comfortable.)

Already at this age, insulin resistant children are on many harsh medications that compound the problem with side effects.  (Talk about a subluxated liver.)

The insulin resistant teenager suffers injuries playing sports or may have anger and depression, feeling frustrated with fitting in.
(Subluxations at play, too.)

The insulin resistant young adult is already on a number of medications for inflammatory disorders that were unheard of two to three decades ago.  (Persistant subluxations.)

The insulin resistant woman has trouble getting pregnant or carrying a child to term.  (Subluxations.)

As insulin resistance continues people are confounded by the level of joint pain they have, stubborn body fat stuck around the middle, and lack of energy most of the day. 

The insulin resistant person needs hip replacements, stents, and other surgeries in order to remain active.  They often speak to their friends about strange disease names no one used to hear of such as lupus, irritable bowel, sarcoidosis, vasculitis. Graves disease. 

The insulin resistant person is more likely to suffer from dementia, and need nursing home care at an unexpected early age. 

Not trying to sound like a broken record but a poorly fed brain struggles with subluxations that disrupt the healing process.

Why am I picking on insulin resistance?  Because no one pays attention to it until lab work meets the definition of diabetes.  It is not common to check someones insulin levels.  

Meanwhile, we are using so many health care dollars and taxes for child services, teachers, social workers, surgeons, nurses, not to mention police, prison, drug treatment centers, nursing homes.  

It sounds like we have a busy, robust economy. however we have more people who are on disability who are no longer in the work force.  We have many people who never made it into the work force.  Heart conditions used to be a major reason for disability, but now back pain and mental disorders far surpass that.  We can do this a better way.  The Brain First Always Way.

And we an blame it all on insulin resistance.  The most frustrating factor is that the usual blood tests will tell you that you are not insulin resistant, and that you are not near a risk of diabetes.  This is wrong, wrong. wrong.  And we don't even test kids, at all.

While chiropractic adds nothing to the body and takes nothing away from the body, we must also consider what the body is made of.  If the body is comprised of inflammation, and poorly formed tissues (due to the Standard American Diet),  we are not working in a useful medium.  We need clear neurological pathways and healthy receptive tissues that can receive the information we have opened up through the chiropractic adjustment.
