Doctors Who Jumped Ship: When Doctors Need Their Own Security Detail (Part 10)

I listen to podcasts while I walk my dog.  I download them onto an old cell phone that I can't ruin, since it already has a cracked screen.  Lately I've been uninterested in the recent feeds so I searched for some of my favorite peeps who give informative talks.

I found an older interview from June 4, 2018 with Dr. Suzanne Humphries. You will recall I wrote about her in part 5 of Doctors Who Jumped Ship.

Suzanne Humphries Jumped Ship

Doctors Who Jumped Ship

What perked my interest is her personal story about receiving death threats back in 2018.  I had read about it briefly a while back, but listening to her talk about the poor investigating of her complaint and her announcement that she now has her own private security made me realize how important these outspoken doctors are.

Even Dr. Andrew Kaufman mentions he knows his life could be in danger.

What you must know about them is their resolve to keep going.  They have an inner strength that is so impressive.  Would I carry on with such optimism?  Would I have the courage to do the same?  I only write about this on my blog.  I have a small audience.  I have a fair amount of confidence when I am talking to others who agree with me.  I am happy to talk with folks who show a genuine interest is hearing my side of the story.

We are living in a country that espouses free speech.  We are allowed a second opinion.  Or is that not the case?

When you need your own private security for telling the truth about medical procedures that cause harm, what has happened to society?

We want health.

We don't want to be mislead.

And we don't want to be sickened because the truth is hidden.

Continue your search for real empowering information.  You may be surprised how easily we've been fooled for generations.

Thank you for reading.  I plan to stay positive and upbeat.  Healthy people are able to assert themselves.  And you need that in a country where the culture has drifted away from common sense and self autonomy.

Chiropractic is the brain healer.  We need you fully involved in making the world a better place.  See you at the table...the chiropractic table.

New Tools at Patreon

A day of chiropractic adjusting goes by so fast.  It doesn't leave me enough time to teach and consult about the other steps to brain/body health.

Chiropractic is the foundation of brain and body/mind wellness, but your health habits in between office visits are super important to promote your body's tissues reserves.

Your innate intelligence works "in concert" with your tissue reserves, so if they are lacking, your innate intelligence has nothing to work with.  You need both together in a beautiful partnership.

So, the other fun part of my job is supporting your brain boosting activities that you can do outside the office.  I do this by teaching the three doorways to restoring and maintaining health:

Move the Brain

Feed the Brain

Talk to the Brain

You may be doing some brain boosting activities very well.  And you might need to polish up on others.

Patreon allows me to keep all my online video courses in one place so you can view them anytime you like.

Two Faves Together

There is so much great material on Podcasts/Video Interviews that I can miss some.  I am super pleased to have seen this posted on one of my friend's Facebook wall.

Of course, if you've been following my series on Doctors Who Jumped Ship, here are two of them on a podcast together.  So this is quite the treat.

I haven't listened to the entire episode yet, but I wanted my loyal blog readers to have the opportunity, as well.

And, here's an update: My BFA Protocol Video Course is available for viewing on my new Patreon channel.  Here is my best breakdown of the steps to take so your chiropractic adjustments can go nuclear.  (so, your adjustments are more spectacular as you reduce the stress in your body.  Healing is always better when your stress is reduced.)

You're going to be busy for a while catching up on all these videos.  I know you're going to love them!!!!

See you at the table........the adjusting table.

The Language / Belief Barrier -- Pick the Side that Promotes Growth

I've been living in my own world lately.  One reason: being anywhere other than a grocery store is shunned right now.  If it weren't for  visiting friends  at each others' homes, life might be extra isolating.

On a side note, home entertaining was probably more common a generation ago.  People enjoyed close contact.  They were not glued to the TV.  Fancy dinners were not needed.  You only had to gather in the living room, kitchen or porch.  We shared information face to face.  We did not listen to biased voices we now call news anchors.  We trusted each other because we knew each other's personal stories.  We even worshiped together at the same local church.

I have cocooned myself away from the fear and dogma of the germ theory.  It's just not how I wish to live. My office is a place where you can let your hair down and not feel as if fearful eyes are glaring at you.  You come in, reignite your spine's gateway to the brain, and go on living a purposeful life.

That's what  my office is all about.

I have avoided the inflated numbers when we know the test is inappropriate.  I won't watch the sensationalized news that focuses on the outrageous.

If you revisit an earlier post from June 13, 2020, you will recall this quote:

"The basic tool for the manipulation of reality is the manipulation of words. If you can control the meaning of words, you can control the people who must use the words."
Philip K. Dick

The words we pick make a difference. And this quote is still timely.  I've said in the office you don't want to lose weight, but lose inflammation.  It changes your outlook.  I've said you don't age, but you have more time to accrue toxins. Makes the goal more reasonable, yes?  You have more empowerment, yes?

I'm so done with the self preservation I've put myself through.  At times, I prefer to keep to myself rather than get sucked into the vibration of fear.  But part of me needs to go out there and help people melt away their fears.

How do we change people's opinions if we don't slowly chip away at their long held beliefs?    The belief barrier is very strong, yet this is an important time to ask the hard questions.  What if information you relied on for a long time has not actually served you?  Will you admit it?

When is it a good time to avoid people?

When is it a good time to engage people?

What is the balance?

When entering the "Feed Your Brain" Doorway, I ask you to stand firmly in your belief about the body's ability to self heal, so you can treat your body well.

Then, you are called to understand and admit you may be doing harm to your body.  You are open to clearing your plate of health facts that may turn out to be "old wives' tales."  Possibly you just weren't aware of the toxicity in the world.  Both mental and physical toxicity.  Even our body creates internal toxins as part of metabolic processes.  An inability to detox adds to the problem.

Don't let the belief barrier hold you back from your best healing.  Be open to a state of growth, self improvement.  Allow your language to change to the positive spirit of self healing and self nurturing.

It's not easy.  That's why I write about so much. It takes a new commitment. But it's worth the "growing pains."

Doctors Who Jumped Ship (Part 9: Thomas Cowan)

Thomas Cowan, MD

Who else made the list?  Check here.

Dr. Cowan revealed in a recent newsletter that he believes California is not a good place to be for doctors.  He specifically said, "There is no future as a medical practitioner in California."  To me, that clearly sounds as if it is a terrible loss for the residents of the Golden State.  In fact, he explained in his newsletter that four complaints were made against him while he was practicing in California.

He helped a cancer patient without using surgery, chemotherapy or radiation.  He spent a period of time on probation which also cost him quite a bit in legal expenses. Another time he had an old advertisement stating he accepted patients with a myriad of illnesses including cancer and that had to be dealt with. Fortunately, the issue was dropped.  Then, he was investigated for writing what he calls, "valid" medical exemptions for vaccines. And now he is being investigated for going against the mainstream definitions and protocols for C O V I D - 19.

Dr. Cowan is just very tired of the ongoing turmoil, my words.  His patients are obviously pleased and appreciative for his care and genuine interest.  I would love to have him as my doctor. But, for the state, his efforts are not appreciated.

And this week, (July actually.  I'm late getting this blog post finished.) he drove across the country to move closer to his children and grandchildren.   The travel restrictions and other current threats to our freedoms solidified his decision.  Writing a heartbreaking letter to his patients he closed his practice.

If you listen to Dr. Cowan's interviews about the drastic changes in the modern world putting our future at risk, or his investigations showing that the heart is not a pump, you realize he is thoughtful with everything he teaches.  He admits that a great deal of his medical training was not logical or sensible from day one as a medical student.  He felt compelled to not ignore the nagging questions and I believe his patients have been better off because of his desire to dissect every belief from all angles.

My Lifelong Quest to Find My Voice is at a Crossroads

I'll let him tell you more of his story himself.  CLICK HERE.

Just reading how Dr. Cowan broke the news to his patients shows you the troubling side of a system that can no longer be counted on as  helpful to the public.
From his website:

  • The office will close on June 30, 2020
  • Despite many months of trying, I could not find anyone to take over my practice. Sadly, I have no other doctor or health-care provider to suggest for my patients.   This is not to say there aren’t good practitioners of all sorts in the Bay Area, but there are none that I can, with all my heart, recommend to everyone.  I trust that each of you will find a good solution for your health-care needs.
  • I am going to take all of July off, the first full month off in almost 40 years, but I will continue to answer emails and do my mentoring sessions.
  • I will relinquish my medical license after July, with the plan to re-emerge as an unlicensed “health coach” or consultant.  This means that, starting in August, I will no longer be able to order tests, write prescriptions, make diagnoses or offer treatment plans.  I will, however, be able to talk to anyone who wishes to talk to me about my opinion on what might be best for them.  Frankly, I am looking forward to a new way of interacting with my friends, previously known as patients.  More details about how this will work will come soon.
  • During June, July and maybe even August, Laura and Alyssa will answer calls and emails to help you get a copy of your chart, order prescriptions (you might want to get a year’s supply of whatever prescription you take, as soon a prescription from me will no longer be honored), order supplements or help you in any way possible with this transition.  All of the supplements I use and recommend will still be carried on our website.  This includes strophanthus, NADH and all the others.  In fact, in the coming months, our plan is to introduce new lines of supplements that I feel confident will actually take my “medicine” to a whole new level.
  • During the month of June, as we pack up, I will continue to be available for phone consultations on the usual Tuesdays and Fridays.  I would love to speak to as many people as possible during this time.  Emails are also welcome.
  • I will continue to be in touch indefinitely through blogs, webinars, interviews, my own podcast (coming soon), mentoring and perhaps another book or two. So please continue to subscribe to this email list and our new YouTube or Bitchute channels.
Now, that we're nearing the end of August, I found him on a recent podcast and he can tell you what he's been up to:
He remains upbeat and feels a positive desire to share his knowledge.  This makes me grateful that we can still carry on the conversation.

I hope you, my reader, will do the same.

Doctors Who Jumped Ship (Part 8: Andrew Kaufman)

Fired for Not Wearing a Mask
(And Refusing to Promote a Destructive Agenda)

He knows he could be in danger and accepts it.  He mentions the downside of standing up for truth.  I was listening to his interview on the Higherside Chats with Greg Carlwood. (Episode Here.)

Dr. Andrew Kaufman, a compassionate psychiatrist, inventor, and questioner, has been firing up the internet with his Doubting Thomas attitude and pointing out that peer reviewed research comes from questionable peers.

I feel a particular familiarity with Dr. Kaufman because we share similar paths.  I do not know him personally, but give him a shout out as a close neighbor in Upstate New York. Working with the mentally ill, we've both witnessed patients be treated with contempt, probably with civil rights violations along with the dismal failure of psychiatric medications.  More than dismal, if I may add, these drugs are very dangerous and damaging. To tell someone their brains are so unbalanced that harsh medicines are required for life is beyond unprofessional and demeaning.

Yes, he was fired for refusing to wear a mask at his job earlier this year.  Mask wearing is detrimental to the doctor/patient relationship, especially when assessing a person's emotional state.  He also teaches that the idea of mask wearing for disease control is irrational.

Being fired was a terrible loss for his patients but, I don't think it has slowed him down.  People who appreciate his candor are seeking him out.

Sometimes you can't play in the sandbox.  And I believe the sandbox is full of bullies.  With this series about doctors who veer from their earlier teachings, it clearly shows the bullying and intimidation going on everyday to make doctors shut their mouths. The current medical model is a totalitarian system.  There is no room for disagreement. If you look for a second opinion, you won't find one.  Treatments are one size fits all. So what if there are side effects that can kill you?  If you don't do what we say, we'll take your children away from you.

Doctors who stand up for their patients right to choose end up  losing their status and financial stability.  Now, if you sit back and say, "Not my doctor," check out the suicide statistics for physicians.  Late last year we lost of our prominent local doctors.

With all the money and technology in the U.S., we are dead last in health compared to the other first world countries.

Dr. Kaufman offers you the second opinion you need to hear.

Ask Dr. Kaufman if Koch's Posulates have been fulfilled and you'll be schooled on a very problematic system that governments use to take away your rights.  He will give you  plausible explanations why we get sick, and that it is not likely to be a contagion.  He uncovers research that is truly buried in the archives about viruses never being isolated in a lab.  He had to call on librarians to dig up research that is too old for the modern database.  Pertinent information could be lost forever and ignored so we potentially end up living under erroneous beliefs.   A study done shortly after the Spanish Flu failed miserably to show direct contact between  sick and healthy volunteers spread any disease.  They were sickened in some other manner and there is a growing group of curious  minds who want to think beyond the current mindset.

We are in the middle of a very successful experiment showing how fear controls most people.  And this experiment was done on us without our consent.

Here is a video from Brian Rose's London Real.  It may end up being censored and removed from YouTube.  We'll see if YT is tolerant of differing view points.

Next Up:  Dr. Thomas Cowan.  (Coming soon.)

Doctors Who Jumped Ship (Part 7: Jennifer Daniels)

Jennifer Daniels, MD, MBA this week
and Andrew Kaufman, MD next week

This video below is a special treat of two local peeps near my town who got together via zoom to chat about their ethical challenges regarding medical standards and how they stepped out on their own to provide healing care to their patients.

Who else made the list?  Click Here.

I met Jennifer Daniels when I was an intern in my outpatient clinic during my last year of chiropractic college. It  was the year 2000.  She was gathering information about her practice in order to face a state board complaint regarding a patient who wasn't on insulin but ended up in the emergency room after returning from a celebratory vacation, drinking heavily and ignoring dietary advice Dr. Daniels had given him.  Her patients were rallying behind her writing testimonial letters explaining how much she helped them.

She was aware that she was on the outskirts of the medical community.  She knew that pharmaceutical reps were not pleased that she wasn't prescribing their latest and greatest, heavily marketed drugs.  Hospitals were upset that her patients weren't needing admittance.  She also informed her neighborhood of a back room political deal that would have financially harmed the tax payers  and defraud a local bank.

At first glance you would be relieved to hear patients were not needing hospital care.  Dr. Daniels even noted her decrease in prescribing also decreased the death rate in her patient population.  People were healthier and enjoying their lives.

But, in the medical business world, every doctor's professional actions are tracked.  It is now common knowledge that doctors who do not write a certain number of prescriptions are audited and forced to pay back insurance reimbursements.

Countless medical doctors who offer natural treatments have anonymous complaints lodged against them even when no patient is harmed.

In the end after much legal juggling, Dr. Daniels decided to move on with her life and gave up on getting her medical license reinstated. She was subjected to unfair rules and other professionals were afraid to risk their own professional livelihoods if they offered to supervise her.  The agreement that would slowly allow her to regain her medical license was financially burdensome.

The biggest lesson for me as a health care practitioner who watched this happen is how regimented and oppressive the medical industry is with so much controlled by government policies.  In a profession where a second opinion is promoted as your right, the options are very limited.  In America you have so many choices of homes, clothing, cars, etc., yet your ability to choose what kind of health care you prefer is nothing of the sort.

This doesn't bother most people until they are dealing with an unexpected health problem.  There is also a strong belief that insurance plans owe you a high quality health care experience.  Sadly, this is not the case.

If  average private citizens don't want the surprise of an untreatable disease, or many long drawn out years of decline, they have to educate themselves on the stark difference between prevention and intervention.

This is what medical doctors like Dr. Daniels are doing now.  They spend their time educating the public on how to maintain control before a hospital experience takes away someone's ability make his or her own assertive decisions.

If you're interested in listening to Dr. Daniels' podcasts, look for her videos on Vimeo at or her Facebook page titled "Healing with Dr. Daniels."

Next week, look for Dr. Andrew Kaufman's biography.

Doctors Who Jumped Ship (Part 6: Gary Fettke, MD

Cancer survivor barred from talking about diet to save his diabetic patients

Who else made the list?  Check here.

In Australia, the Medical Board of Tasmania told Dr. Fettke he could not give nutritional advice to his patients.  Why?  Was any of his patients harmed? No.  The complaint was delivered anonymously.

Dr. Fettke is naturally a intriguing person.  An orthopedic surgeon, he also survived brain cancer.  (Read his cancer story here.) He says himself that he was tired of amputating the legs of diabetic patients are began promoting a low carb high fat diet to them.  He then hoped to improve the food offerings at the hospital where he worked.

Hospital food guidelines recommend two desserts with biscuits and other carbohydrate foods as part of a normal meal for diabetics.  This is not actually healthy for anyone, diabetic or not.  If you recall in a previous blog I explained Dr. Joseph Kraft's findings that more than 90% of teenagers are already prediabetic.

When a hospital dietician made a complaint, he was informed that he was speaking outside of his scope of practice.  He soon made the decision to leave the hospital and not renew his contract.   He stated in interviews that he could not be the best physician under the rules put on him and accused the board of  bullying.

When my patients share with me their medical chart notes I still see the outdated advice of low fat, low salt diets.  Food manufacturers still add huge amounts of sugar to make low fat foods taste good and we wonder why obesity is such an epidemic.  People still think Dr. Atkins was fringe and that saturated fat will kill us.

Old habits are hard to break.  And old lies are hard to give up.  Dr. Ancel Keys, a physiologist who was given a number of conscientious objectors to experiment on during his starvation studies during WWII, gave us the poorly studied hypothesis that saturated fat was harmful.

It took a couple of years, but eventually Dr. Fettke was completely exonerated and given a flimsy apology.

His wife, Belinda, documents some of his story in the blog  She discusses the risks imposed on free speech as well as the potential harm to patients who get progressively worse on outdated food pyramid, especially the terrible effects it has on children.

Follow Dr. Fettke's story here.  And also check out his talks on the YouTube Channel: Low Carb Down Under.  He has remained very busy as a speaker and teacher spreading his mission to reduce suffering with simple food changes.

Too Fried to Figure It Out?

Image: Is Your Brain On Fire:

Call to Action:  Whatever it is that is holding you back, acknowledge it and enter the 3 three doorways for brain health.

The most challenging aspect of brain health is getting people to make the life style change needed to experience a positive turn around.

When the brain is significantly impaired, a person has  a tremendous difficulty instituting the positive change needed to enhance the healing response.

In the mainstream-modern world we call it "non-compliance."  It becomes a common term dictated into medical notes when someone continues to exhibit the same symptoms over and over without improvement, especially when someone says, "I don't like how that medication makes me feel and I don't want to take it anymore."  Wham-o!  Bam-o!  Someone has just been labeled as non-compliant distrustful patient.

So, allow me to back track a little bit and describe how brain impairment prevents someone from getting healthy.  When the brain is energy deprived, that also means the body is energy deprived.  At the smallest level, the cells are dysfunctional, unable to complete a cellular metabolic process resulting in toxic build up and a severe energy crisis.

The book Change or Die, by Alan Deutschman, helps me answer the question why people are stuck and unable to make a change.  I has become a classic on my bookshelf.

Check out a book summary here: Change or Die.

He delved in to the stats that showed heart patients after a surgery will not change their life style habits even when told they will die if. Ninety percent of these folks do not follow through and end up going in for repeat surgeries.

People who feel hopeless and not in control feel so demoralized that they believe there is nothing left out there in the world that will work for them.  Alan Deutschman came up with three core attributes of practices that help people change and discussed three types of success stories.

From the BFA: Brain First Always approach: We look at nutrient deficiencies, toxin overload, and especially early-learned behavior patterns which are basically attitudes becoming physically expressed in the body as a state of health.

1- People are so sick and weak, they don't have the mental or physical energy to take on new behaviors.  New learning requires the pre-frontal cortex to be ready to go. Remember learning to ride a bike?  You were shaky and uncoordinated.  You didn't trust yourself.  You felt a little anxious.  That means the pre-frontal cortex is working hard.  It takes a good bit of energy and a heightened sense of curiosity to engage like that.  You must feel shaky and uncoordinated because you are trying a new activity that is not comfortable because it is new.  Something new is very threatening whether it is speaking in public, trying out gym equipment for the first time, going to a job orientation, doing a nutritional detox, trying a new diet, enrolling in college, etc.

New activities "kick in" the Fight or Flight brain response.  The sympathetic nervous system releases adrenaline to help you along.  In adequate amounts this hormone gives you a sense of excitement and inspiration so you can learn new things. In the right amount, we call it the zone where someone "kicks butt," during a job interview, they "hit it out of the park," during a music performance, or they don't hesitate to help someone in a crisis.

On the opposite end, too much Fight or Flight/Freeze or Faint from the Limbic System (emotion and memory portion of the sympathetics) is very distracting and blocks concentration.

How do we heal the brain in spite of sickness and weakness?

Understanding Leaky Brain will help.  Datis Kharrazian, author of Why Isn't My Brain Working? offers great insight to the workings of the brain.  He teaches his clients how to address the signs of a failing brain that most of society will blame on aging.  Yet, he underscores how important it is to be very deliberate in choosing healthy behaviors since our modern life style, chemical laden processed foods, etc. has been very disruptive.  Health recovery is not on auto-pilot.  We have to acknowledge the down side of modern life and find a better balance.

Ultimate Healing Podcast: Leaky Brain
Repair a Leaky Brain

2- The new behaviors are so different from current habits, that limbic system emotions of fear and distrust pop up causing someone to exhibit a very strong hesitation.

3- Peer pressure is very powerful at holding people in their stuck states, which is another aspect of limbic system fear.

4- Fear of confrontation in an imbalanced relationship (such as a doctor, or spouse), community peer pressure, also incites the limbic system to stay in a holding pattern.

5- A dopamine imbalance (the motivation neurotransmitter) prevents someone from  starting a new life style habit.

6- Lack of appropriate and sometimes correct information leads us to "spin our wheels," wondering why our current actions are not helping, not realizing they are actually hurting.   This is challenging because many wrong ideas about diet, health, medical procedures end up in peer reviewed journals and it is taken for granted that the information has been under appropriate scrutiny.  (Check out my series on Doctors Who Jumped Ship to learn about the attempts to reform the disingenuous aspects of medical care.)

7- Time also proves to be a serious block to healing.  How we fill our daily plate of life, devote hours to our jobs, etc., certainly gets in the way of health.  Sometimes I hear people say, "I hope I can make to retirement...."  We all have the same hours in a day, as the saying goes, but our time choices also matter.

I invite you to set aside some time to start a coaching relationship with me so you can reorganize your life in ways that help you approach the nagging concerns you know are impacting your brain health.

My calling is to help you live your calling, and you cannot do that with an impaired brain.

Doctors Who Jumped Ship (Part 5: Suzanne Humphries)

Suzanne Humphries, MD.

Who else made the list?  Check here.

Biography from the IOSM website:

(International Society for Orthomolecular Medicine)
Dr Suzanne Humphries is a medical doctor certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in both internal medicine and nephrology. She worked in the conventional medical system from 1989 until 2011, when she left her hospital position in good standing. Since that time, Dr Humphries has been furthering her research into the medical literature on vaccines, immunity, history, and functional medicine.
Dr. Humphries jumped ship after the tried to reform the system from within.  When she had kidney patients in a Maine hospital, they were given a flu shot at the time of admittance without her knowledge.   It was hospital policy and the shot was administered before she met the patient.  Some patients never had  kidney issues until receiving the H1N1 shot and it put them in kidney failure.
When she spoke up, it fell on deaf ears.  She often spoke up on behalf of other doctors who would not do it themselves and report these problems with their patients.
She wrote the book,  Dissolving Illusions: Disease, Vaccines, and the Forgotten History, and also an autobiography: Rising from the Dead.
She left her hospital job and private practice in order to do private consulting and to educate the public on the illogical parts of the medical system that have done a great deal of harm to the trusting public.
I haven't read Dissolving Illusions yet, but her other book, Rising from the Dead was very detailed in her ups and downs from medical school until the time she left her practice.

Why did I pick her as as one of the Doctors Who Jumped Ship?  I was emotionally rattled to read that her expertise and experience as a doctor was completely ignored.  You want an independent thinker to stand up for you and give you the best, relevant, and customized advice for your specific situation.  When a doctor's recommendation is purposely disregarded, then you wonder, what is the point of having a doctor? What happened to the credo, "Do no harm?"

I understood Dr. Humphries plight and knew there are too many doctors who have stopped thinking for themselves.  She said it herself that the looming financial strain after a decade of advanced education tends to turn anyone into a hapless "yes," person who develops a split personality in order to cope.

If this is the state of medicine where you must fit into one or two codes for insurance billing, our health is in extreme danger every time we visit a practitioner or worse, enter a hospital.

People in emergency and chronic care lost a true doctor who takes the fiduciary responsibility seriously.

Fortunately, she is still standing up for those who need a trusted truth teller.  Her extensive knowledge of the history of vaccines is very helpful at helping the public understand what is at stake when intelligent voices are shut down. Her many talks and seminars can be views on You Tube.   She also provides private consultations.

You can also read each chapter into of Dissolving Illusions here.

Heal Your Covid Emotions

Doctors Who Jumped Ship (Part 4: William Rawls)

Who else made the list? Read here.

William Rawls, MD is the author of  Unlocking Lyme.  I picked up his book when Lyme disease was becoming more talked about.  It seemed to have this mystery about it as the media took control of the situation trying to inform the public.  (Does that sound familiar, by the way, with our current popular virus of the day?)

But, after reading his introduction and first few chapters, I realized the same health practices that heal other ailments apply here.  They always apply.  What keeps the body healthy is the same no matter what you find on lab work and no matter what name you give a set of symptoms.

These pathogens, or little buggers, or critters, as I like to call them have been with us since the world began.  There are too many to name, so why get all mixed up in the details?  Mummies like the "Iceman" and other dated materials have shown these spirochetes, microbes, etc., are not new.  And they were not making us sick, until recently.  Something happened to us in very modern times.

Dr. Rawls, also suffered from Lyme disease.  But he is adamant that he was exposed to the Lyme critters when he was a child playing in the woods.  Interestingly, he was not sick until middle age when his life was extremely stressful as an OB-GYN delivering babies at all  hours and living a sleep deprived existence.

He jumped ship because the typical medical approach was not getting people him well.  He also explains that spending time with patients (something we all want and need as part of the healing process) and not ordering procedures that don't work, my emphasis on the not working part, made it impossible to maintain a financially viable medical practice.

Dr. Rawls removed himself from the managed care system and revamped his practice into an integrative office utilizing herbs and natural approaches.  He pulled himself out of chronic illness so he has the experience that allows him to relate to the difficulties others have endured in the same situation.

The most important concept I can convey from his own story is that the environmental microbes need not freak us out.  We are built with a great immune system from the brain to the gut and it is up to us to protect it.

Doctors Who Jumped Ship (Part 3: Timothy Noakes)

Timothy Noakes, MBChb, MD, DSc

Who else made the list? Read here.

Dr. Tim Noakes is an avid sports scientist and ultramarathoner.  But he became ultra-interested in nutrition when he realized his high carb diet gave him diabetes type II.

Going low carb/high fat reversed his diabetes and he admitted the old information about diet was wrong.

In an HVMN interview he said, "In about 2010, I suddenly realized I got it all wrong and decided that I better stop harming people because the books that I'd written said that high-carbohydrate diets are ideal. I realized I was wrong."

Extended interview:,carb%2C%20high%2Dfat%20diet.

While he changed his stance, he said industries didn't like it.  He had to defend his medical licence in South Africa and prove the previous science was wrong.  He was adamant that he could no longer tell people that the typical food guide was healthy.

Tim Noakes on Trial Summary in Runner's World

When folks like Dr. Noakes talk about high fat as health promoting, in flies in the face of decades of accepted dogma.  Now that we're realizing that a fat deficient diet is problematic on energy levels, vitamin conversion, brain and heart health, many physical problems can be healed.

But it hasn't been a smooth road for many of the doctors who stand apart from their medical standards.

Dr. Noakes explains it in plain, simple terms and speaks with a soul deep honesty that makes the informatin more well received.

Following his dietary advice certainly will decrease someone's inflammation levels and slow down the degenerative aspects of chronic disease.  If can reverse his own diabetes, he makes the perfect coach.  He is a teacher who lived it and can help others get over the mental hurdles of giving up old beliefs.

I Hate Fear and Lies - So I Became a Chiropractor to Deliver Confidence and Truth

My calling is to help you live your calling.
When we are motivated to take on a personal mission, it's typically not simple.  Sure, when I wanted to be a school teacher I was positively impacted by a stern teacher and it took me by surprise.

I dreaded the end of summer when everyone else found out they had the favorite teachers but not me.  My teacher had a reputation as being mean.  Naturally, I was petrified but somehow told myself to just deal with it.  This was fourth grade.

In the end, my memory of that school year was pleasant.  While I gave her a run for her money because one of my friends (Yes, someone else ended up in her classroom, too.) and I were endless troublemakers sending notes back and forth, I witnessed to her organization and no nonsense style. I wasn't forgotten.

I went to college with dreams of a theatrical career, but I later graduated with a degree in teaching.  The lasting impression of this teacher stuck with me and I realized I wanted to somehow give others this kind of impression.  She didn't lecture us on how to live.  What fourth grader would listen to that kind of lecture? There was no relevancy.  We merely watched how she carried herself and managed her classroom.  Her example was powerful.

Also, I remember watching the Tony Robbins documentary, I Am Not Your Guru.  He mentioned at the end of the interview that a teacher made a small, but caring comment to Tony one day.  The personal interaction provided a springboard energy for him as it prompted him to take on some new action that enriched his life.  You'll have to watch the documentary yourself.  This revelation comes near the end.

What stood out for me was that his teacher wasn't reinforcing the subject matter, whatever course or syllabus he taught.  The teacher provided guidance in a very useful, relevant way.  We don't look back and say, "Wow, that lesson on photosynthesis was life changing."  We remember for the rest of our lives how one brief moment, a quick comment, or a kind gesture motivated us to do something a little bit better.

I was a teacher for only one year.  Along the way I took a different path, but with the same intention.  We can change the world one impactful moment at a time.  Some of us do it as teachers.  Others may do it as fire fighters, EMTs, artists, retail managers, marketers, coaches, parents, authors, and more.  We each have our opportunities to determine our purpose and choose how to serve our communities.

While my teacher taught me how to use structure in a disciplinary manner, I applied that experience in everything else I did.

Another person who was very influential in my life was my grandmother.  Spending time at Grandma's was always a delight.  She raised two boys, so she enjoyed all her granddaughters.  She taught me how to sew and cook.

When I watched her decline in her later years, I also learned that it was a long, slow decline where we were helpless.  The best I could do was help care for her daily needs and love her.  She was discouraged by her failing abilities which morphed into a fearful anxiety. I decided I did not want to have that experience in my own life.

In tenth grade my grandma moved in with us after suffering a stroke. A lasting impression was made when my dad asked  me to organize all her pills.  With paper, pencil, and a ruler, (no computers back then) I made up a grid with a schedule for each medication.  Some were first thing in the morning, others were after meals, before bed, once a day, twice a day and more often.  We wanted to keep track of her medicine and anyone who was home could mark off when she was given a dose.  She was taking a drug nearly every hour she was awake.  Now tell me, who wants to ever do that?  Not me!  This is just what every optimistic teenager wants to look forward to in the later decades of life.

This was a huge lesson for me.  Especially when she never got better, I knew this was more than the elephant in the room.  This was a secret misery no one wanted to talk about.

Fast forward to my time as a mental health therapist working with the chronically mentally ill.  Mind you, these jobs were easy to come by because this is the ignored part of society no one really cares about.  It's a sad fact that also alerted me to the problems with the current biomedical model of mental illness.

People were not getting better and they were not expected to get better. Please refer to my blog post about Peter Breggin here, regarding his work at reforming psychiatry.

People get tired of listening to the mentally ill.  This is a strain on  the system the leads many to job burnout.  Many people with chronic depression, bipolar disorder, etc., have physical disorders, as well. Unfortunately, their psychiatrists refer them to physicians.  The merry-go-round comes right back when the clients would return to tell us that nothing abnormal was found in their blood work so it was all in their heads.  They were falling through the cracks.  This was demoralizing for me.

Enter chiropractic.  I knew there was a body/mind connection, but I wasn't very influential within the mental health system. I had small successes working individually with people on simple natural approaches that I taught myself, but I needed to delve into it more.  I knew a lot about the mind.  I wanted to learn about the body.

So, I volunteered at a chiropractic office. When I discovered how the spine was the major communication link between the brain and the body I couldn't believe this information was never revealed to me in my master's program.  When I found out about the Winsor Autopsies demonstrating this in a medical journal published in 1921 I thought it was terribly detrimental that the public didn't know this so many decades later.  (Read here how Dr. Winsor changed my life.)

I also learned how successful chiropractic was for mental health issues back in the 1920s to 1950s.  There were chiropractic hospitals that used chiropractic and nutrition to give people back their independence. Where are these successful hospitals?  They were ignored by third party payers and were not given licenses to function as hospitals.

Chiropractic is also a promising partner in addiction recovery so I knew there was so much potential in receiving a chiropractic education.

Not only that, I also get adjusted every week as a routine.  I have been since 1995.  I only wish my parents knew that we all could have been adjusted since birth.  Click here to read what my first adjustment was like.

For me chiropractic is the missing link in healing.  My grandmother didn't have to live in fear.  No one has to hear the lie that there is nothing else left to try.

Over the years I've dealt with the same old talk that people can't get well no matter what they try.  I see the learned helplessness.  To me this is shameful.

It is because of fears and lies that I became a chiropractor, but more importantly I see the potential healing in people when they step out of their old comfort zone and take on the healthy practices they can learn about.

The potential is there. The success is waiting to happen.  The chiropractic philosophy may be something new to you, so let it sink in to your brain.    Want to join me?
