Foods That Inflame - A Pattern You Can Change.

In the latest handout of the week, I have been giving practice members information on the Pattern Wheel of Wellness.  

You can pick up your handout at your next visit. 

We know we can only change a problem by changing our patterns. 

One of the patterns includes the types of of macro-nutrients we are consuming. 

To reduce systemic inflammation, which causes metabolic syndrome, you eat the foods that do not inflame. 

Check out The Deflame Diet, by David Seaman.  I like his make it easy approach to meeting your health goals with food. 
What Can I Eat?
Read the Deflame Diet (2016)

These foods will not inflame your body:

grass fed meat, wild game tubers/roots (potato, yam, sweet pot.)
meats nuts (raw or dry roasted)
wild caught fish omega-3 seeds (hemp, flax, chia)
shellfish spices of all kinds
chicken olive oil,
omega-3 eggs avocado
cheese dark chocolate
vegetables bacon
salads (leafy greens) red wine, stout beer
fruit coffee, tea (green tea is best)
coconut oil butter, cream

These foods INFLAME:

refined sugar
refined grains
grain flour products, including whole grain flours
refined omega-6 seed oils: soy, corn, safflower, sunflower, peanut etc.
*legumes/beans (unless they are soaked for 3 days and pressure cooked)
*whole grains (unless they are soaked for 3 days and pressure cooked)

Sorry.  I procrastinated on providing part 4.  (You can go back to Part 1 here.)
I promised to write about the poly-pill study, which seems to me to have faded away over time.   It is an approach that pretty much insults the patient.  Let's put 5 or so meds into one pill to improve compliance.  

First of all, we're already too lazy to look at the dietary aspect of health, so might as well dump all the so-called medicines into one pill so we don't have to take responsibility for our own health.  

That's me being sarcastic.  We already know these drugs make the heart less healthy, so I  won't be considering this with a fair and balanced eye.   

The researchers admit the volunteers had a reduction in blood pressure and cholesterol, but we need to look deeper to see if health is improved.  (Blood pressure went down 3 points, and cholesterol 4 points.  See the Deflame Diet, Chapter 16)

It's still a "one size fits all" approach. If you have a bad reaction to a medication, how do you figure out which one is affecting you?

If you take a pill and keep eating your damaging diet, you will still have inflammation attacking your organs.

Oh, and nevermind that the authors of this proposal have applied for a patent in the polypill.  I am all for entrepreneurship, but, I won't be a buyer.

The Heart of the Matter: You Are Only Getting Half the Story (Part 3)

Need to read part 1 and 2?  Start here.

After watching the 2015 documentary film, The WIDOWMAKER, I felt compelled to blog about other information regarding heart health to round out the discussion.  

The film addressed technology for the problem of death due to sudden cardiac arrest, but it did not delve into the long occurring breakdown in health that got people into trouble in the first place. 

So, I offered 6 points of information and covered 1-3 in my Part 2 blog post.

What's Missing?
1- We need to talk about the nervous system
2- We need to talk about collateral arteries
3- We need to discuss why animals don't get heart attacks
4- We need to stop talking about cholesterol and change the subject to inflammation
5- We need to talk about the Jupiter study
6- We need to talk about the Poly-pill study

As a chiropractor, I offer people natural ways to maintain their health.  In fact, anything unnatural adds more stress to the body which is ultimately problematic and illogical.  These natural ways allow them to achieve health with their own efforts (with the exception of chiropractic:  someone else has to adjust the spine, but it is still a natural approach) giving people a sense of empowerment and accomplishment. 

When someone is in the midst of a health crisis, things are pretty scary and the level of anxiety pushes someone into a vulnerable state of helplessness. 

When someone is in an emergency situation, the trauma team at a hospital intervenes.  A life is saved with technological advancements, but the patient now has the daunting task of finding new life style habits to prevent a recurrence.  I don't believe it is daunting because the freedom and sense of personal achievement is powerful in healing. On the down side, the medical establishment turns to a slew of maintenance prescriptions that need constant monitoring for side effects. 

I do not prescribe drugs.  I don't want to.  As a consumer of health products, I am aware of the limitations of medicine and the risk of chemicals in the body.  I am also aware of the limitations of a body riddled with tissue damage.  When your tissues are drowning in the acidic soup of inflammation, the true source of inflammation must be addressed, and drugs only add to the fiery soup. My goal is to educate people on what is actually needed to stay alive and thrive. 

My dad died in his sleep from a coronary occlusion. But how am i sure of that?  The autopsy found the blockage, but was it really his nervous system strangled under inflammatory conditions? It was a long time ago when he was constantly given a clean bill of health after running a few minutes on a treadmill once a year.  His numbers were perfect according to his doctors .  He was taking blood pressure medication along with bile acid sequestrants. I can't remember how low his blood pressure was under medication, but his doctors were pretty happy.  

Now I blame his love of margarine for his death in his early 70's.  But I need to consider multiple factors affecting the state of his nervous system.  He was exposed to a lot of chemicals on the job that could have made his arteries stiff.  The bile acid seqestrants interfere with nutrient absorption, so I believe he lost minerals like magnesium and B vitamins that are critical for heart function. 

According to the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Foundation, we're no better off than 20 years ago.  Some websites state heart disease has decreased, but it is still the number one cause of death. And what about quality of life?  

4- We need to stop talking about cholesterol and change the subject to inflammation
Author, David Seaman, states in his book, The Deflame Diet,  cholesterol is "an 'innocent bystander' being unjustly blamed for clogging arteries."  He also cites recent studies that show inflammation is the culprit in atherosclerosis, not cholesterol.  Cardiovascular researchers know this is the case and the old view is no longer substantiated in the literature.  (See Chapter 20 of The Deflame Diet)  There are so many other authors out there who have already covered this topic I don't feel the need to give my readers a science lecture. 

Chronic inflammation is an underlying cause of heart and vessel dysfunction.  But you have to learn about it on your own because the medical establishment still tells you to eat low fat.  Processed food and soft drink manufacturers give money to health associations.  They will all tell you to eat anything in moderation so the money keeps flowing.  

The most inflaming foods are sugar, grains and seed oils which tends to add up to 60% of the average person's diet.  Asking someone to change 60% of his or her diet can create quite a panic, so there needs to be some type of emotional preparation.  Still, freeing someone from an inflammation catastrophe has numerous benefits in addition to improving heart health.  

5- We need to talk about the Jupiter study

Statin medications are the doctors' favorite for reducing cholesterol.  But, actually measuring if patients are better off is very difficult to prove.  I recently listened to talk by David Diamond who had to evaluate his health status.  Fifteen years ago  he was overweight and had terrible lab numbers.  He has improved all his heart disease risks by eating a low carb high fat diet and has never taken a statin medicine.  I liked his approach with the audience.  I liked that he was straightforward about the carbohydrate problem regarding overall heart and blood sugar health. I am impressed that he is a neuroscience researcher.  He understands the brain and mental function.  His critics complain he is not a heart expert, but they are missing the point that the brain and heart need the same nutrition for health.  He certainly knows how chemicals damage the brain!

He also has been critical of statin studies that poorly state their case of effectiveness yet media talkers brag about a number that is really insignificant yet blown up as major breakthrough in managing heart conditions.

What I find interesting and helpful is really delving into the meaning of cholesterol since low cholesterol sets people up for poor health increasing their risks of infection and cancer.  Older people who have higher cholesterol in actually in better health, so it is seen as protective. As far as the damage to the brain, this is right up Dr. Diamond's alley.  Here in this link he reiterates his years of work in a rebuttal after other professionals complained of his debate with another doctor on a radio program. 

Dr. Diamond has never taken a statin and 15 years later he has had no heart attacks.  Imagine that!  What I find comical is that his doctors didn't like the fact that he used a low carb high fat diet to regain his health.  Here is a video of one of his entertaining talks.

6- We need to talk about the Poly-Pill study in Part 4.
I'm sorry that I'm taking so long to write this.  It takes a while to gather the information, even though it is readily available on the internet.  If you read David Seaman's The Deflame Diet, you will learn about the poly-pill study of researchers who want everyone over the age of 55 to take a daily pill that contains 2  blood pressure meds, an aspirin, a B vitamin (synthetic, of course), and a statin.  They did a 12 week study and took out a patent on their idea.  I'll let you know about this in Part 4.

The Heart of the Matter: You're Only Getting Half the Story (Part 2)

The Documentary, The WIDOWMAKER, takes a look at the challenging aspects of heart disease treatment.  Sadly, death from sudden cardiac arrest is still the number one killer of Americans.

From my perspective as a chiropractor and as I watch many people suffer from chronic heart disease, I know there is a great deal of helpful information that is barely talked about when it comes to long term health and quality of life. 

What's Missing?
1- We need to talk about the nervous system
2- We need to talk about collateral arteries
3- We need to discuss why animals don't get heart attacks
4- We need to stop talking about cholesterol and change the subject to inflammation
5- We need to talk about the Jupiter study
6- We need to talk about the Poly-pill study

1- We need to talk about the nervous system

A burdened nervous system cannot protect the heart and damage can go on unabated.  The real problem begins when the parasympathetic system is off the job.  The vagus nerve is crucial in keeping heart activity balanced.  When the vagus nerve is working poorly, the effects of stress overpower the heart.   Hypertension, diabetes and smoking greatly reduce the protective effects of the vagus nerve.  When the vagus nerve is weakened, it cannot counter the affects of the sympathetic nervous system's response to fight or flight events (stress).  

A physical or emotional stressor triggers adrenaline, this causes heart cells to break down glycogen for energy that then releases lactic acid.  The lactic acid doesn't allow calcium in the cells and the heart muscle cannot move.   Swelling occurs and heart cells die. The pressure of the swelling is what causes nearby plague to rupture.  This is a very short version to explain how the heart loses control.  

When the sympathetic nervous system is reacting to stress, it is doing it's job correctly.  The lack of vagus nerve involvement means heart tissue has been beaten up for a long time without proper maintenance.  

Chiropractic care has been shown to improve the function of the vagus nerve, the pre-frontal cortex of the brain (virtually everything) and the limbic system (emotions and mood).  

2- We need to talk about collateral arteries
The heart has numerous smaller collateral arteries that act as a "back up system" to the larger coronary arteries.  Dr Pascal Meier, a lead author on a study of collateral arteries (European Heart Journal 2011) said people with higher numbers of these collateral arteries have lower mortality even if they have coronary artery disease.  Dr.
Thomas S. Cowan of the Weston A. Price Foundation says coronary arteries don't show up on angiograms, but they are there.  If you wonder why people with a 90% blockage in a coronary artery have no pain,  it's because they have collateral arteries in place doing the work.  But also be aware of this:  the worst enemies of collateral arteries are smoking, diabetes, and high stress. They are smaller vessel so they suffer damage sooner.  This is similar to the study on smokers having more back pain.   Capillaries at the spine of smokers become damaged preventing oxygenated blood from getting delivered to the spinal joints.  So take care of those collateral arteries.

3- We need to discuss why animals don't get heart attacks
Mattias Rath, MD, wrote the book: Why Animals Don't Get Heart Attacks but People Do.  The short version is humans unlike the rest of the animal kingdom do not manufacture their own Vitamin C.  Cardiovascular disease is really scurvy of the heart and Vitamin C is protective.   Proper intake of vitamins and other nutrients are critical to maintaining heart health. Dr. Rath was good friends with Linus Pauling who asked Dr. Rath to carry on the message about nutrients and health. It is interesting to note Dr. Rath has been involved in a number of lawsuits alleging his information about disease is misleading but has been issued apologies at times by the British Medical Journal and a German court had said his free speech rights have been violated.  

The information in topics 1, 2, and 3 should help us understand the amazing workings of the body.  We don't have to fear our own bodies.  They work very well when treated with TLC.

A balanced life with chiropractic, nutrition, rest, purpose, and pleasure add up to a positive recipe for wellness.  

But, some people struggle with feeling well and under anxious conditions, they are thrust into the world of the prescription merry-go-round.  And that takes us to topics number 4, 5, and 6.

The Heart of the Matter: You're Only Getting Half the Story (Part 1)

I watched the documentary, The WIDOWMAKER, a 2015 documentary chronicling political and financial positioning of stents and the coronary heart scan.  

The repeat question through the movie was how do we stop people from dropping dead from a silent heart problem?  People are dying without any warning symptoms.  Sudden cardiac arrest is still the number one cause of death. (

It was an eye opening film about the challenge of heart disease. It showed how the invention of the stent became a booming business for cash strapped hospitals.  Doctors, hospitals and medical device manufacturers make loads of profit from the stenting procedure. 

The problem is there is no change in later outcomes.  Life span is not increased. Compared to people on medications without the procedure there is no difference.  (And I would add, quality of life may not be any better) The stent industry was being attacked for looking only at financial gain and not patient well being.  It has been shown that stents do help people with severe chest pain, but, in my opinion, the patient is still responsible for his or her own health habits hoping to not cause anymore clogging of coronary arteries.  Focusing on the patient's own self care was not the intent of the documentary.  Diet and fitness were barely mentioned.

The film also noted that a future bypass (if needed) cannot be performed where there is a stent, so it is a concern to people who develop new blockages. The film doesn't attempt to tackle the  question regarding restenosis or additional clogging.  It does seem if you talk to enough people in your own community that people go in for repeat procedures.  Since the thesis of the WIDOWMAKER was to only address sudden death, an entire conversation related to long term health was not included.  

The coronary artery scan has been available for a number of decades but has been ridiculed by doctors who didn't see the value in it.  It is a CT scan of the heart.  Blocked arteries are able to be viewed and graded for it's calcium content. As a screening tool, it was hoped it would alert doctors to people at risk so they didn't become a sudden death victim.  Doctors remarked the information wasn't helpful and they didn't know how to treat a patient in that situation. Some argued that a low cost scan is not as lucrative for hospitals compared to the surgery.  More recently the heart scan is now being accepted as part of the screening process, but in my view, it's forcing more people to go on risky medications. 

Overall, the movie was informative as a historic detailing of the two health care interventions. It did not provide any clear notions on what creates and maintains health. And, death from sudden cardiac arrest is still the number killer of Americans.

So, at the heart of the matter is how do we obtain a fuller perspective?  You are only getting half of the story.  If you are a watcher of documentaries like this, you probably know that they are a simple way to learn about a topic.  It should spur you on to do your own research.  

On a lazy Saturday night, I actually enjoy watching these types of documentaries.  These films show me there is enough global interest in empowering people with health information. But, I know there are a lot of gaps that need to be filled. 

The tag line of the movie is  "Watch this film, it could save your life."  But I believe you need more than this film.

Life Saving Information Costs You Nothing; Doing Nothing Costs You Everything

Life can be so simple yet we tend to stumble through it because we're  in disbelief that simple works.

Are you your own complication?  Do you stand in your own way? 

The best advice to calm a child in the midst of a tantrum is almost ridiculous. 

Easy tips to save money are obvious, but people pay tuition for classes to learn about it. 

How many times have you heard a piece of sensible information but were embarrassed that you couldn't figure it out for yourself? You know, the times you slap yourself in the head.

Time to get serious:

It costs nothing to hear life saving information.  Especially at my office.  I'll tell you the truth.  If you're stumped by poor health, I'll let you know what you need to do to you take care of your own body. 

Now here's the kicker: 
You have to take the action necessary  to take care of your body.  Yep, still simple.  

But now the bargaining begins.

-- Naw, I'm not really that bad off.  I'm good for the next 5-10 years. I've got time. 

-- I just don't think I can change my schedule around to incorporate better habits in my life. 

-- If it's not included in my insurance plan, I won't be doing it. 

--  It's tolerable (the pain, irritation, etc). And anyway, it runs in my family.  I expect to feel this way.

-- I never heard that before in my life, why should I believe you?

--I've felt this way for so long, I just can't imagine what better might feel like. 

-- Oh, shoot, you really have to pick apart my life like that?  It's unrealistic to expect me to do that with the pressure and demands of my ___________.  (Fill in the blank.  Go ahead: my job, my children, my spouse, my parents, my car payments, my home inspection, my vacation plans.....) 

Not to be a downer, but I've heard folks lament over their regrets that they put their health on the back burner.  I've spoken to people who are so sick they don't believe any minor change in lifestyle will make a difference.  Other folks have been so surprised by the positive changes in their lives, they said, "Why didn't I come in sooner?"

I've told my own story how I thought I knew what health was, yet I was on the path to depression, degenerative arthritis, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, even diabetes or cancer. But I nipped it in the bud early on so, who's going to believe me?  (Watch my apology video)

I know we've all watched our "old" relatives suffer lengthy battles before dying.  And we accept it.  They were up there in years.  That's not me.  I have so many years ahead of me.  And who doesn't really feel relief that their loved one passed on and the suffering was over?  Watching the suffering is also over.  Who still carries that silent guilt?

But we are at a great disadvantage compared to the world our grandparents grew up in.  We have more stress, more toxins, more risks.  We are also staggering around with worse health. We all believe we are doing healthy things, but we're not.  We have to revisit health advice that is wrong.  Chronic disease from weight gain is on the rise.  Diabetes as an epidemic is expected to explode in twenty more years.

And folks just want to talk about their achy back. (Please, don't. This chiropractor has bigger plans for your future)  I need to reframe something for those who want to really understand:
Your joints are the window to the rest of your body.  If you have joint inflammation, the rest of your organs are inflamed. They are not independent of the other.  

An adjusted spine can open up a ton of healing for all body systems, but you need to learn how that happens and how you can support it. 

And most of all, I want folks to realize that this progress is within your own reach.  You can do it without an extra college degree.  You have most of the tools in your own house.....along with my office.  You don't need permission from your insurance company because you don't need fancy procedures to be successful.  

But you have to act soon.  The body always strives to heal until it can't. The tissues can get to a point of no resiliency and there's a point in time when emergency procedures do not work. 

People live with artificial hips, knees, stents, pins, because they still have that spark of life buzzing along and keeping them going. They might call it "making due," with what they've got, but I want that spark to no longer be impeded by interference and stress. 

So here's what you do.

Hey, Men! Is the American Heart Association Giving You Low - T ?

Not to pick on men, but I'm pretty sure guys might listen more to topics on testosterone rather then heart health. 

But heart disease is a big problem, and low-T is a hidden partner in crime. 

So, just to let you know, the American Heart Association wants, you guys, to eat less fat, use seed oils,  and eat more whole grains.  

What does that mean?  If you look at Chapter 8 of The Deflame Diet, by David Seaman, DC, MS, it will explain why Low-T is associated with autoimmune diseases and a pro-inflammatory state.

Three culprits cause dietary induced inflammation: grains (refined and whole grains), seed oils, and sugar. 

What does this have to do with brain-based chiropractic?
We want the chiropractic adjustment to send nerve energy to thriving tissues.  Can your organs, blood, cells, etc., receive the adjustment and use it?

Let's perk up your body's soft tissues with good nutrition.  Inflammation is a big battle.  The adjustment helps reduce inflammation, but a poor diet is like pouring constant poison into a river.  

Would you throw money on the ground?
Of course, you wouldn't do that.  So we don't want to waste an adjustment either. Your adjustment is like money.  Let's get the biggest bang for your buck that you can.

Teach Yourself to Not Miss Toast

I have given up toast.  Yes, it can be done.

I have been eating low carb for a number of years and always had a desire to have a plate full of runny eggs and plenty of toast to dunk.  

In all honesty there is no such thing as moderation when it comes to grain products.  You just say good-bye.  And you then tell yourself, "I don't miss it."

Because we have an alternative.  Sweet potato fried eggs.  

With the vegetable spiralizer being all the rage, I decided to to use my 50 cent vegetable peeler.  I like to have thin strips of carrots in my salads, but the day I tried it on sweet potatoes, I knew I was on to a more creative way of cooking.
The best way to get more healthy foods into your diet it to be as creative as you can imagine. 

These thin strips of sweet potato soak up the egg yolks just fine and taste great. 

Once you sautee them in butter for a few minuted, you crack your eggs right on top. 

 I tossed in some almonds for a little crunch and breakfast is served. 

Take a look at the photos.  There is just one problem.  It's not as pretty once I flip the eggs, but you "get the picture."

Building Relationships: Sometimes Easy--Sometimes Challenging

As a chiropractor who offers the membership-model for maintenance and wellness, I know a lot of folks who are "in it for the long haul."
 There is nothing in practice that is more rewarding.  It is the only reason to be in practice: to cultivate long term relationships which is an absolutely necessary part of healing.  

Chiropractic is a relationship.  Your brain and spinal cord are in a life sustaining relationship with your organs.  
My ability to communicate this and maintain a supportive relationship with my members provides the ongoing source of fuel to enhance the healing power.

Not everyone takes the journey.  While I have been privileged to be a part of people's last years and even their last days (like, Lefty, who passed in 2013), I wonder about the people who decide to go in a different direction.  It weighs on my mind. What kind of relationship could I have formed with them?  I have only one or two visits to make that impression on people and convey the gift of chiropractic.  Some people are very distracted and the information doesn't sink in.  I know it takes time for people turn around and try something new.  I know it takes multiple warning signs of poor health before someone decides to take action.  

I wish I was a psychological magician..... 

At times I see names of folks in the obits section and I remember when they came in the office, but they were not fired up about the chiropractic story. I replay the visit in my mind and try to come up with better ways to reach people. I'm still working at it. 

I am grateful for folks, like Lefty.  I wrote about him in 2014 on my Facebook wall: 

April 20, 2014:
Thinking about Lefty who died in his sleep Easter Monday last year at age 96. He started getting weekly adjustments the year I was born and I got to be his last chiropractor. He came for his Wednesday adjustment the week prior and was late for the first time. His daughter said he couldn't get up that morning and was still sleeping when she came to drive him over. His health was failing since Christmas and he was getting transfusions. Finally he said he was fed up with the transfusions, but gosh, he made it for his last adjustment at 3 p.m. five days before he passed. RIP, Lefty.

To all my members who are committed to the profound work of the nervous system, Thank You.

Should I Help You DO MORE HARM?

Odd question, but I need honesty.

If you're getting adjusted on a regular basis to improve your nervous system....... (That's the only reason.......helping your nervous system make you a better healer.)

........Back to the question.......Are you getting adjusted so you can go HEAP ON MORE STRESS in your life?

Your life is your life and I am happy to provide chiropractic care to those who appreciate the unique spine/nerve relationship.

But .... am I helping you do more harm?

Is your stress level still high?

Your emotional stress?
Your physical stress?
Your chemical stress?

Part of subluxation care is understanding how to change the stress we have control over.  We can reduce the interference that disrupts nervous system function.

I Really Hate It When Folks Don't Feel Better - Part 2

I can feel pretty down when folks don't take a deeper look at important aspects that influence healing. They shut down the conversation, change the subject or explain to me why things have to be the way they are.....

I deal with many mental blocks that are pretty tough to break down because they are so well ingrained in society's way of dealing with health. For example: the fix it fast mind-set regardless if it is a safe solution with real benefit.

When we are locked into these mental blocks it's very difficult to give the body what it truly needs (and we tend to expose our bodies to dangerous habits).

What are the massive mental blocks I see?
1- Feeling there is no time for health because of a demanding work schedule
2- Lack of belief that healthy changes can happen
3- Putting up with an unhappy work environment 
4- Addictions to foods and chemicals that are clearly destructive to the body.
5- Addictions to foods  and drinks we are told are healthy but actually wreak havoc on the body.
6- Spending money on unhealthy activities that could be better spent on non-insurance items or services that rebuild the body.
7- Lack of exposure to other people who demonstrate habits that influence true healing.

Too much of the destructive stuff....
Not enough of the nourishing stuff...
Not enough support...
Not enough desire to reallocate time and energy in this direction because it's just not that bad yet.  

These mental blocks hover around the adjusting room and set up a negative psychological aura that doesn't allow people to break through the glass ceiling.  

Psychological stress tightens muscles, increases cortisol, raises heart rate, raises blood sugar leaving us in a perpetual state of inflammation.  Think of it as a big fire and we are throwing three or four ice cubes on it.  

I'm here to get you through these difficult road blocks.  But you have to use me.  You have to ask me how to reach the core of the apple.  You have to let me know you want to hike through the thicker brush of the forest cutting down the vines and limbs that are blocking the path.  This is called "advanced chiropractic."

I don't know if you want to go deeper in your journey.  I can only nudge and see who bites.  I cannot force people. 
And we have too many societal forces going against us.

I Really Hate It When Folks Don't Feel Better - Part 1

It's a hard day when someone isn't experiencing health improvement.  

We're both disappointed.

Yes, it does take time.  And, yes, there is limitation of matter to consider. That means some damage to the body is irreversible, but there is always a chance for some kind of improvement.

I never want to give up on somebody (especially when they give up on themselves).  These folks may have a lot of tissue damage or toxic build up that has disrupted the healing process. 

So, there's a lot of work that needs to take place to boost healing. And it may seem to be a daunting task to undue years of stress on the body.  

I think about these folks long after I've left the office for the day.  I often get very sad when I see the following:
      --Someone giving up too soon
      -- Someone not believing improvement could happen to them
      -- Someone who doesn't have support at home so they can fully          concentrate on healing.

It isn't a good feeling watching them walk out the door. I really wish everyone felt the same excitement I have about the healing process.  I've seen people go through a great transformation process and I know it's possible.  For that person who is disappointed, in their own world they see only that.

P.S. Most folks do very well under chiropractic care, but there are the other folks who had amazing, life-saving experiences.  You must always tell your friends and loved ones that better health is possible.  I can't do it without you.  You are proof and people need to see proof in action.

Fake News? Let's Talk About Your Fake Pain

Fake news is all the rage in recent months, (or years depending on your feelings on the current state of our media options).

What is fake news?
    * Some quotes are misinterpreted or poorly paraphrased?
   *  Embellished stories?
    * Outright lies?

Let's talk about fake pain, because this is an issue everyone would rather tip-toe around.

What's that?
  It's just my way of describing how people handle their health concerns. 

Pain is a message, not the real problem.  
Pain is often a misinterpreted message. 

          Pain has multiple causes, and I don't deny people have pain.
However, pain gives folks something to worry about, talk about, and dare I say....complain about. 

       It's really a safe distraction.
      I talk to a lot of people with recurring pain.  
      All things considered I see a lot of recurring stress.

           Recurring dysfunctional relationships
           Recurring bad dieting
           Recurring medication side effects
           Recurring lack of sleep
           Recurring terrible bosses who manage badly
           Recurring excuses

We call this stress: interference.

Interference subluxates the spine and short circuits the nervous system's ability to coordinate healing through the body. 

While we adjust subluxations to reconnect your wondrous innate healing capability, can we be more honest about stress?

Not all stress can be alleviated, for example, gravity, pollution, politicians.  But we can do quite a bit in our lives to make things better.  And that includes honesty about what causes break down and what causes healing. 

Stay positive!  Hang out with chiropractors!

People are hooked on suffering.  That's why I do what I do. 

I have found people dwell on their problems for a long time.  They replay negativity over and over in their minds.  They dissect their challenges hoping they will find mental relief.

This is beyond inaction.  This is a double-whammy.  Why make it worse?

We are equipped to heal.  So, let's support healing.

It's simple.
Subluxations are life altering.

Clear out the subluxation. Give healing a chance.

Like a garden that needs weeding, keep clearing out your subluxations.

 Experience the real you.

You can help yourself in so many ways, but you've got to get right to the place that is your inner most source of personal power: your nervous system.
