Vacations Keep You Healthy

An apple a day keeps the doctor away.
A vacation away (for more than a day)keeps the burn out at bay...

...............................

Today is June 17, 2008. Schools will soon be out. It is summer time. Let me warn you now, it will fly by so fast and we'll be looking at changing leaves on Labor Day Weekend.

If you're like me, summer is over as soon as you turn around. I have seen many summers come and go without taking any kind of break. We live in the Finger Lakes and there is so much to do. How many times did I say, "I'll get to it," and then don't? I didn't even go to the State Fair last year and possibly the year before, I don't remember that far back.

We are in a workaholic culture. We think we can't afford it. We think vacations are more work than work!

People who don't take vacations are not as healthy as they could be. Check out this Forbes article:
Ten Healthy Reasons to Take a Vacation

So, plan now. Pull out your calendar, pick out a date and come up with a trip whether it is close by or some place near the equator. You don't even have to leave town. You can plan activities you don't get to do any other time (fun activities, not chores). Just don't keep in touch with work.

There is a book called The Four Hour Work Week. It is quite an interesting concept. I did read the book, but it made me anxious learning how the author does it. So, I should read it over a few times and let it sink in because I am not ready for it. But, who knows...

So I am making plans...
What are yours?

Tim Russert: A Man Who Loved

I spent my Friday night watching the news stories about the sad, surprising death of Tim Russert. I believe he was in just about everyone's home via TV bringing politics and current events to our lives so we could understand how our participation as American citizens mattered.

He was enthusastic, likeable, and very dedicated to his family, his charities, and his work.

What we can learn from his life?

Tim Russert's death came so suddenly. He was at the top of his game. His career was very successful and it was obvious he loved all that he was doing. Yet, at 58, how many people are planning their retirement? Many do, but he sure wasn't. He was only beginning to do even greater things.

So many great thinkers and innovators are just getting warmed up in their 50's and
60's. That's why the 100 Year Lifestyle is gaining global popularity. More people will reach the age of 100 than ever before and they need to be prepared for it.

Even though Tim Russert's life was cut short, he was doing what he loved. We need to promise ourselves we will always do that no matter how old we are.

See you at the table...the adjusting table.

Farming, Corporation Secrets, & Our Right to Buy Healthy Food

..............................

No One Dies of Disease,
What's that all about?
In office talk: Thurs. June 26, 5:30.
Info posted in the office.

What is happening with Farming, Corporation Secrets, & Our Right to Buy Healthy Food???????????

I believe nature is being held hostage and we are throwing away our future by not paying attention. This is from the website The Future of Food.
.....................................................
There is a revolution happening in the farm fields and on the dinner tables of America -- a revolution that is transforming the very nature of the food we eat.

THE FUTURE OF FOOD offers an in-depth investigation into the disturbing truth behind the unlabeled, patented, genetically engineered foods that have quietly filled U.S. grocery store shelves for the past decade.

From the prairies of Saskatchewan, Canada to the fields of Oaxaca, Mexico, this film gives a voice to farmers whose lives and livelihoods have been negatively impacted by this new technology. The health implications, government policies and push towards globalization are all part of the reason why many people are alarmed by the introduction of genetically altered crops into our food supply.

Shot on location in the U.S., Canada and Mexico, THE FUTURE OF FOOD examines the complex web of market and political forces that are changing what we eat as huge multinational corporations seek to control the world's food system. The film also explores alternatives to large-scale industrial agriculture, placing organic and sustainable agriculture as real solutions to the farm crisis today.

Dairy is Scary: Subluxated Thinking

"The food industry has "spoiled" us with over procesed, cheap, and addicting food that should just be called junk! And we don't seem to mind."
...................................................................

I just came across this update from Dr. Mercola's newsletter debunking the ads that say milk and other dairy products three times a day help with weight loss. Every sensible nutitionist I have talked to or heard from did not find milk to be a weight loss tool.

So, when was raw milk a health food?

Back in the day it was! Dr. Mercola mentioned raw milk being a health food and cancer cure at the Mayo Clinic in the early 1900's. An artcle was published in Certified Milk Magazine in 1929. Dr. Crewe, the chief raw milk specialist, even had great results with high blood pressure. It lost its popularity because it was too simple. There was just no glamour in a product that was natural and easy to obtain.

Sometimes that's the way it is with chiropractic. Office visits are short and fairly pain-free. I talk about the same thing every week: the superiority of the nervous system when it is nurtured and adjusted. I tell everyone to do common sense things like rest, exercise, and stop the nonsense of the "I'm so stressed" mantra. Chiropractic is simple, yes, but it requires consistency.

Let's get back to the milk story and why I call it subluxated thinking. (I call lots of things subluxated thinking when they are unnatural and damaging, like a subluxated vertebra.) It is subluxated thinking because the food industry has "spoiled" us with over procesed, cheap, and addicting food that should just be called junk! Retailers must sell their products pasteurized by law. I feel bad for the diary farmers who are stuck in the middle of a competitive market due to what I call "unhealthy demand." The public, thanks to a convincing media, believe there is no such thing as safe raw milk. It is a sad system of farming and raising animals, but we are entrenched in it.

Get to Dr. Mercola's article and read the section that shows how easy it is to grow pathogenic organisms in pasteurized milk. E. coli, salmonella, and listeria cannot survive on raw milk. So subluxated thinking is alive and well, especially with certain lobbys that are so good at enforcing an agenda whether it is sensible or not!

It's hard to get true natural foods unless you plan ahead, find the right places to shop and really read labels. It's not easy! To be honest, I don't always choose the best products. I do not shop for grass fed animal protein. There are some foods with high fructose corn syrup in the house. I am fully aware there really are trans fats in potato chips despite what the label says. But, there is no microwave oven in my house. I am very picky about my supplements and I try to eat raw fruits and veggies at each meal.

We have to do our best and keep our nervous systems well adjusted so it can handle the rest.

Is Your Doctor a Good Example?

Johnathan V. Wright, MD, has not eaten sugar or any grains in 20 years? What does he know that we don't?

Most people understand the toxicity of refined sugar. Most of us are still emotionally tied to our breads and grains.

Who Gets It, Who Doesn't: Living with Health Freedom

I can always tell who gets adjusted and who doesn't get adjusted. I can tell by looking at them and talking to them. The group that doesn't get adjusted somehow thinks time is on their side. The folks who get adjusted don't care to gamble like that.

Most of my practice members know that it takes less than 48 hours for calcium deposits to form when their joints are mechanically disrupted (usually from an injury, but also from nutritional problems or emotional overload that causes hormonal (like cortisol) upset. This is a sign of joint vulnerability.

It only takes 14 days for nerve damage to be irreversible and permanent. How many nerves do we want to sacrifice?

It takes 1-3 years for ligaments to heal. That's a long to time to let more misalignment and injuries to occur because ligaments remain unstable.

I met someone recently who gets adjusted once a month. I told her about these
numbers, she said she didn't know these facts. She gets adjusted more often now.

"Once a week to stay at your peak."
Peak performance takes consistency.
