More is Less: Not Providing Adequate Information

I always believe our biggest health problem, besides the subluxation epidemic, is that we make health decisions without enough information.

.............................

In October, I sent a letter to MORE magazine because its article Back Attack could have had more information about chiropractic care. While I can't find the original article, I have printed here my letter to them and then you can read the letter they printed:

In response to the November article, Back Attack, please allow the opportunity to provide more information regarding chiropractors. Membership in a professional organization does not indicate competency. All professionals can choose to be dues paying members of organizations that match their professional niche or interest. The American Chiropractic Association is just one of many professional chiropractic associations including the International Chiropractors Association, World Chiropractic Alliance, and the World Federation of Chiropractic as well as numerous state associations.

Chiropractors are licensed doctors and every state has its own governing board that monitors professional conduct. Osteoporosis and lower extremity numbness do not automatically rule out chiropractic care as a sensible option. Doctors of chiropractic assess the nature and severity of the symptoms before recommending a chiropractic treatment plan or referral to other practitioners.

............................................

Now, here is what is in the Feb. issue. You will discover what I was conveying has changed once my letter was chopped up:

"As a chiropractor, I don't agree with Rover's point that osteoporosis and lower extremity numbness automatically rule out chiropractic as a sensible option. Chiropractors are licensed practitioners, and every state has its own governing board that monitors professional conduct."

Elena Rover replies:
The advice not to seek chiropractic care in these instances is consistent with treatment recommendations from the National Institutes of Health and the Mayo Clinic.

I don't expect NIH and the Mayo Clinic to be knowledgeable on chiropractic issues. They are allopathic paradigms. And the Mayo Clinic is known to correctly diagnose 40% of the time.

My lesson to Better Living Choices readers: Stayed informed, always look for more information. I do it all the time. I have an insatiable appetite for it. And I am devoted to sharing what I learn. Of course, I want everyone to go for the drug free approaches first. Just a reminder, I became a chiropractor because of the unique way chiropractic views and treats the nervous system. No other profession comes close. And that's fine. Wellness has many facets to it and chiropractic addresses them very well.
Thank yourself for being so diligent in your quest for wellness.

See you at the chiropractic table...and the book club meeting!
