Don't Break A Habit...Reestablish It

So, you want to change something about you. You want to make improvements. Break a bad habit. Why do we have to be so negative? Bad habit. Break it. Breaking it sounds so seriously pessimistic.

The more we think about breaking it, the more difficult it becomes because so much energy is spent on anger and disgust. What if we treated the undesirable habit like an old friend we've drifted away from? It's time to let you go old friend. Part ways because we have grown apart. When you recognize the need to change, you are growing.

It can be tricky. There's no denying that so it's a good time to look for lots of support. There is a Stuart Lichtman audio I recently listened to online that touches on this topic. He noted there are three parts of the brain that are "rooted" in instinctual patterns while one part of the brain is open to new things. He called it "3 against 1" and this is why it is difficult to instill new habits. You can listen to it here. He talks about ways to get all parts of the brain to team up and go for the healthier, desired new pattern.

If you've ever said good-bye to an old friend, you probably thought it over very carefully and made the decision to let go telling yourself you can get beyond it without feeling bad. Say good-bye to the old and hello to the newLetting go of a habit allows the opportunity to establish a new an improved pattern to take its place.

We can enlist the help of the spine since limbic system cells are at every level of the spinal cord. By keeping the spine in balance, a greater sense of well being is achieved so the new habits take a strong hold in your life.
