Your Chiropractic Adventure Starts Here!

I receently created a new slide show for new practice members. It provides a short introduction to the wellness aspects of chiropractic and describes how this office is different from other chiropractic specialties.

I invite you to take a look at it and show to friends who may not understand all the benefits chiropractic provides.

Maybe you need a refresher, so take look.

A Dedication to Important Decision Makers

I will soon be launching a "double book." I finished writing God Made Women Not Estrogen Dominance: Premenopause & Beyond.

On Sale Now....Click Here

I saw the need to focus on this stage of women's lives because (1) I am in it now, and (2) a better understanding and welcoming of menopause is the better way to deal with a whole host of other chronic diseases. What is not being communicated in the medical media is that all diseases are related in some fashion to premenopause and beyond.

Rather than look at all health issues separately, we need to look at them from a maturing standpoint. For women it is before, during, and after menopause. (Men have a similar change and can be addressed in an almost similar fashion.)

Premenopause and menopause are recognized as troublesome times in a woman's life. It is treated like a disease in the allopathic model. Even with a more natural approach, symptoms are treated one by one with different herbs and supplements and the overall process of "the change" is underappreciated.

One common theme that seems to be invisible is the toxin connection. The older we get, the more toxic we become and these pollutants trapped in our bodies confuse the nervous system as well as the hormonal feed back system.

Toxins are recognized as a frustrating culprit in weight gain, but it should now be more noticed in all issues of aging, especially premenopause.

And, women beyond menopause still need to be concerned about menopause even though they no longer have their periods. They still need to detox and restore balance, but medicine treats them as if they are men since they are past the reproductive years. This is an attitude change that will only happen when older women demand it from their health care providers.

I've also included a revised edition of The Numbers Don't Lie Diet, so the book is full of two concerns common to women.

The book is designed as a guide for women who want to take more control over their health so they still have time to be the important guide in the lives of their families. To them, I have dedicated the book.

Look for an announcement for some office talks coming up.

Health is Confidence

Pictured: Charlotte Gerson

Do you have enough faith in your self care and lifestyle habits that you would cancel your health insurance? Surprisingly, there are people who do not have health insurance by their own choice and most of them are not rich and famous.

Health savings accounts are on the rise as an option for those who want more flexibility in their health care spending. A savings account for out of pocket costs is allowed to grow with funds that would normally be used for expensive insurance premiums.

Health savings accounts are very popular for folks who spend their own money on prevention care such as gym memberships, holistic services, and weight loss support groups. This serves people who want less insurance but more discretionary spending money for wellness care.

Charlotte Gerson is one person who stopped buying health insurance when she was in her early thirties. Now in her eighties, she still works full time running the Gerson Institute in San Diego, California, and makes time to visit patients at the Gerson clinic in Tijuana, Mexico.

Her father, Dr. Max Gerson, developed a plant based diet to help people heal from various diseases. All her life she has followed her father’s protocol for cancer prevention and healthy living. Seeing enough people respond under his management, she prefers to follow this program rather than use prescription drugs. She stated this very confidently in a documentary film about her father’s legacy.

While Charlotte Gerson had an incredible experience working with her famous father, very few of us get the opportunity to watch people with terminal conditions regain their health. To most of us, just talking about disease makes us nervous wondering if we are truly healthy enough to live out our later years with pleasure.

From the chiropractic point of view the worst disease is a nervous system that is too damaged to regulate the immune system. When body systems cannot bounce back from stress, chronic diseases are more likely to take hold.

Most scientists agree that drugs manage symptoms but do not resolve sickness. Lifestyle habits such as eating well, exercising, and abstaining from smoking play more of a role in helping people heal from illness and injuries.

Adding chiropractic to one’s routine will boost these efforts by enhancing nerve responses at spinal joints. A study published in 2005 showed regular chiropractic care increased serum thiol levels demonstrating an increased level of DNA repair. Damaged DNA is linked to aggressive disease processes.

There are many non-intervention types of care that protect people from disease but are not covered under insurance. When chiropractic and other similar services are not covered people will deny themselves the opportunity to enhance their healing ability.

My message to them is to bargain shop for car rentals and towels, but not to skimp on wellness care like chiropractic. While we hope for an all inclusive health care reform, our own well being is up to us. Don’t wait for prevention to catch on. Get it for yourself.

PCD is the best deal in town

I am constantly going over the demographics of who is coming to the office and how I can get more people interested in chiropractic as their first choice in health care before resorting to drugs and surgery.

I don't have a lot of faith in health care reform because the bureaucratic hoops we will all have to jump through will be worse. Everyone's best bet is to stay healthy and practice a lot of prevention.

I've been looking at other chiropractic discount programs to see how they compare and I must say Preferred Chiropractic Doctor (PCD) stands out as the best. I haven't found any other program that is less than $30 a year for an individual. I've even seen some that tell me what to charge. Others require auto debit from bank accounts.

While chiropractic is still covered under some insurance plans, it only pays for short term pain. This does not do much for our long term health. One of my chiropractic mentors always tells his practice members: "Keep coming once a week until one of us dies." He's got the right idea. Now that I've been adjusting the same people for ten years,I see the difference between consistent chiropractic and sporadic chiropractic.

Cash chiropractic is the best chiropractic. Only you and I decide what is best for your long term health. Not a third party who doesn't know you and care about you.

This year will be my 15th year of getting regular adjustments myself. It has made a wonderful difference in my life. Eirne has been getting adjusted since he was 4 days old and he was such an easy baby.

Please let others know how easy it is to get under chiropractic care.

See you at the table...the adjusting table.

To all my practice members: thank you for your enthusiasm.

Where you place your thoughts is where you place your healing.

The first step in healing is to get the clutter out of our brains. This is crucial to understand because we have been indoctrinated with so much health information that fear immobilizes us when health decisions need to be made.

Brain clutter is a problem when too much information leads us away from the solution. Isn’t it eye opening how children have an uncanny sense of sincerity and can see through all the complicated facades of adults? Children don’t have brain clutter…yet.

Information overload actually has its own designation in Wikipedia as a business management term describing how decision making is stalled due to an abundance of debatable knowledge. In health care the abundance of tests and diagnoses don’t make it any easier to regain health. They are merely different forms of information.

From a chiropractic point of view the clutter seems to make the public more confused. Open any yellow page ad and read the specific diagnoses chiropractic helps. The list goes from the many possible forms of back pain and disc herniations to neck pain, dizziness, carpal tunnel, head aches, sinus pain, digestive complaints, infertility, sciatica, and more.

These are just names of conditions that give us a starting point. They mean virtually nothing in the realm of health. They are just labels we can pick and choose from when we feel unbalanced and sick.

Here is the opportunity to do away with the clutter: chiropractic is about making a decision. Wanting to get out of pain is not a decision. That is just a wish without any action. People who really put the walk in their talk understand their health problems are not the center of attention. Their source of life is the center of attention.

That source of life comes from the nervous system as it coordinates all mental and physical responses while we interact with our surroundings. The location of pain is not as important as the neurological feed back system that attempts to defend the body from stress.

I often deal with other people’s clutter when they talk themselves out of seeing a chiropractor. People rationalize that their leg pain isn’t that bad or their arthritis is just a part of aging. I tune into their suffering and self defeat, not their physical maladies.

With every condition of the body and mind, the nervous system is participating in some fashion. We hope the nervous system is supporting the healing process and not acting as a distraction allowing further damage to occur.

The chiropractic adjustment is the mode of repair to the body addressing subtle spinal distortions that weaken the nerves. The nerves are the hub of survival. Stress will always be with us. Understanding the body’s strengths as it faces daily stresses gives us a different type of insight.

We should be looking at our bodies with awe, not with despondency. Chiropractic has life changing implications if we keep it simple by nurturing the source of life within us.

Do It Better with Chiropractic

The course record at the Boston Marathon yesterday was broken! As a runner who only dabbles in 5K races, it sounds amazing.
See it here.Who would have thought records can still be broken? Well it's happening all the time.

That's where chiropractic comes in. If you want to do things better, get adjusted. Your human potential is waiting for you to wake it up. It lies deeply embedded in your nervous system where your innate intelligence and your physical body meet.

People think chiropractic is for problems but that is so far from the truth. Sadly, people only resort to chiropractic because their lives are disrupted.

Should our disruptions be more important than our human potential? No! Your human potential is for everyday, not when you finally notice you are stuck.

So why do chiropractors focus on people who are in pain?
Because we hate to see people suffer. Pain can't be avoided. It happens when the body is pushed past its limits. But we can learn from our pain and use chiropractic to help our bodies heal efficiently.

So what are you waiting for.
Your personal records are waiting to be broken. Don't settle.

See you at the table...the chiropractic table.

Why You Need Speed

At Homic Advanced Chiropractic the first step is to reframe your pain by assessing your 4 reframing criteria:

P. Psychological stress
A. Absorption stress
I. Injuries old & new
N. Nervous system efficiency

Let's focus on A. Absorption Stress which is how well your body is absorbing nutrients to nourish the body.

Use SPEED:

S. Spine
P. Probiotics
E. Enzymes
E. Exercise
D. detox/diet

Digestive distress sends nerve signals "back" to the spine then the muscles feel the effects of ineffective nerve production.

This is just the basic rules of biology on the body. If you want to feel healthy, don't just focus on the problem whether it is pain or poor function like lousy digestion. Focus on what you are doing to nourish the body.

Spine Keep your spine well adjusted so nerves will tell the digestive system to properly break down and absorb food. Healthy eating alone is not enough. Proper nerve connections are a must.

Probiotics Boost your flora count with probiotics. They are easily killed off by stress.

Enzymes
Enzymes are missing from 90% of our diet. They are important nutrition partners that unlock the potential benefits of vitamins.

Exercise
Good fitness keeps your intestinal tract in shape and you will spend less time filling it up with junk food.

Detox/Diet Go on a reasonable and useful detoxification schedule. Learn about nutritional cleansing. Watch what toxins you put into your body. Take the time learn about it during your office visits. Many foods we assume are healthy are really problematic.

Absorption stress is the one of the most overlooked part of self care. I still hear on the doctor shows that the digestive system works on auto-pilot. You put the food in it, food will be broken down. It couldn't be farther from the truth. Get informed.

And as always never forget the #1 health law of nature:
Your God-given innate intelligence needs a functioning vessel to deliver the expression of life. Keep your spine finely-tuned. Not for pain relief---for quality of life.

As always think beyond wellness. Think vitalistically.
